The main object of' the invention resides in the provision of a kite which simulates the appearance of a bird.
A further object of the invention resides in the provision of a kite ofthe above type which includes a tail portion which is pivotally connected to the main portion of the kite and which will flutter in a realistic manner.
A still further object of the invention resides in the provision of a kite of the above type wherein the rear edges of the wing portions will ilutter in a realistic manner.
A further object of the invention resides in the provision of a kite which is sturdy and durable in construction, reliable and eilicient in operation and inexpensive to manufaotnre and assemble. v
For other objects and a better understanding ot lthe invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure l is a perspective view of a preferred embodiment of the invention shown in operative use;
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof;
Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view thereof taken along the line 3 3 of Figure 2; and
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken along the line 4--4 of Figure l.
Referring now more in detail to the drawing, 10 represents a semi-elliptical frame member of plastic or suitable material integrally formed with a central longitudinal brace 11, substantially as illustrated.
An elongated wooden strip 12 passes under the frame and over the central longitudinal brace thereof, the outer ends of the strip 12 securing the ends of cord 13, as at 14. The inner ends of the cords 13 are secured in tensional engagement with the rear corners of the frame 10, as at 15. Paper 16 or other suitable covering material is secured to the undersurface of the frame 10, the rod 12 and tensional cords 13, the material 16 extending rearwardly of the cords 13 in ilexible aileron portions 17 adapted to flutter in the wind (Figure 4) in a realistic manner similar to that of a birds wings.
Loops 18 and 19 pierce the material 16 and straddle the longitudinal brace 11 at the front and rear thereof, respectively, serving to secure the opposite ends of a line 20 which terminates in a closed loop 21 to which the unreeling kite line 22 held by the kite yer is secured.
A separable tail portion is provided and includes a heart-shaped frame 23 of plastic or other suitable material integrally formed on opposite sides of its rear edge with the triangular, rearwardly extending frames 24. Paper or other suitable material 25 is secured to the undersurface of the frame 23, 24.
Loops 26 and 27 pivotally connect the forward edge of the frame 23 to the rear edge of the frame 10, the loops 26 and 27 piercing the material 16 and 25.
When the kite is in flight (Figure l), due to the tension within the line 22 and air currents, the exible ailerons 17 will flutter in a life-like manner (Figure 4) resembling a bird. At the same time, the tail portion 23, 24, 25 will 2,762,590 Patented Sept. 1l, 1.956
flutter in a realistic manner due to its pivotal connectionv 276,27K to further increase the lifelike effect.
It will be noted that the entire kite is formed of plastic, wood and paper, may be easily and readily assembled, with a minimum o f time and effort and manufactured at a relatively low c ost. s v
The fluttering aileron` 17 and the pivotal tail portion 25V, 2,4r not only increase the lifelike appearance of the bird, but impart improved tiight characteristics, to the kite. v

A kite comprising a substantially semi-oval frame having side portions and having a central longitudinal brace, an elongated strip disposed at substantially right angles to said longitudinal -brace and passing intermediate said side portions and said longitudinal brace, a pair of lines each connected at one end to the outer ends of said strip and at their inner ends to the side portions of said semi-oval frame, covering material secured to said semioval frame and to said strip and lines, said covering material extending beyond said lines in ilexible aileron portions, means for connecting said central longitudinal brace of the oval frame to a kite line, and a separable tail portion comprising a substantially heart-shaped frame having a pair of oppositely disposed, rearwardly extending triangular portions, covering material secured to said heartshaped frame and triangular portions, and means for pivotally connecting said tail portion to the rear straight edge of said semi-oval shaped frame, said means for connecting said longitudinal brace to a kite line comprising a pair of endless loops straddling the front and rear of said longitudinal brace, said endless loops piercing said covering material, and a V-shaped line connected at opposite ends to said loops, said il-shaped line terminating in a closed loop adapted to be connected to the kite line.

A kite comprising a substantially semi-oval frame having side portions and having a central longitudinal brace, an elongated strip disposed at substantially right angles to said longitudinal brace and passing intermediate said side portions and said longitudinal brace, a pair of lines each connected at one end to the outer ends of said strip and at their inner ends to the side portions of said semi-oval frame, covering material secured to said semioval frame and to said strip lines, said covering material extending beyond said lines in flexible aileron portions, means for connecting said central longitudinal brace of the oval frame to a kite line, and a separable tail portion comprising a substantially heart-shaped frame having a pair of oppositely disposed, rearwardly extending triangular portions, covering material secured to said heart-shaped frame and triangular portions, and means for -pivotally connecting said tail portion-to the rear straight edge of said semi-oval'shaped frame, said means for-lpivotally connecting said tailportion to said semi-oval shaped frame comprising a pair of endless loops straddling adjacent portions of said heart-shaped frame and said semi-oval shaped frame on opposite sides of said longitudinal brace, said endless loops piercing said body portion and tail portion covering material.
