ice
In the invention as here disclosed, there is illustrated a portion of a loom having end frame members 10. Through these frame members 10 extends a suitable motor-driven operating shaft 11 arranged to oscillate arms 12 carrying a lay 13, this shaft being connected by gears 11a and 11b with a shaft 110 journalled in the frame members 10. At each end of this lay there is provided a pair of shuttle boxes 14 and 15 arranged in superimposed relation. At the outer end of each of these shuttle boxes there is provided a reciprocating reversing motor device such as is shown in the patent to P. Trombetta, No. 2,337,430 of December 21, 1943, this device being indicated in general at 16. The core 17 is in the form of a flat plate which extends edgewise between the two shuttle boxes and on each forward end of this plate there is mounted a shuttle actuating member having a body 18 as in Fig. 5, provided with a forked extension 19 receiving one forward corner of the core 17. Member 18 is provided with suitable bolt holes 20 inthe arms of the fork and through these bolt holes and corresponding holes in the core 17 extend securing bolts 21. At their inner ends the members 18 are provided with conical sockets 22 for engagement with the inner ends of shuttles 23 when the latter are in position in the shuttle box.
Suitable restraining springs 24 are secured to a supporting member 16a and bear against leaves 25 which press inwardly against the shuttles 23 when the latter are received in the respective boxes, the leaves 25 acting as friction means to prevent bouncing of the shuttles after reaching their terminal position.
As shown in Fig. 7 there is provided a three-wire electrical supply of which 28 may be considered as the positive winding, 29 as the negative winding and 30 as the neutral winding. At 31, 31a are shown actuating windings of the Trombetta device and the two windings 31 and 31a are connected to the supply line 28 in multiple by conductors 32. Similarly there are second actuating windings 33 and 33a of the Trombetta device and the windings 33 and 33a are connected in multiple through conductors 34 and 34a to the feed line 29. The neutral or return line 38 is connected to the opposite ends of each Trombetta windings 31 and 31a and windings 33 and 33a as at 35 and 35a by means of branch conductors 36 and 360.
At 37 is a main switch which is closed only to provide current from the supply lines. At 37a and 37b are circuit controlling devices for opening and closing circuits through lines 34 and 34a, Trombetta windings 33 and 33a, Trombetta windings 35 and 35a, and return lines 36 and 36a. At 38 and 38a are shown similar circuit closing devices controlling the circuits between the lines 36 and 36a, the lines 34 and 34a, Trombetta windings 33 and 33a, and the remainder as shown by the windings 35 and 35a.
In order to understand the operation of the device, reference will be had to Fig. 7, and it will be assumed that the shuttles are located in the right hand shuttle box. The shaft 116 carrying the cams 39 and 39a and 40 and 40a is revolving. During the revolution of this shaft, the cams 40 and 40a move to position to close the right hand circuit closer 37a. At this time the left hand circuit closer 37b and both circuit closers 38 and 38a are open. Upon the closing of the right hand circuit closer 37a, the core of the reversing motor device 16 is thrown to the left and this causes the shuttles to traverse the lay from right to left and to be received in the left hand shuttle box. As the shaft 11c continues to rotate, the right hand circuit closer 37a opens, and the right hand cam 39 closes the right hand reverse closer 38. At this time the left hand reverse closer 38a and both closers 37a and 37b are open. This causes the core of the motor device to retract. As the circuit stands at the beginning of the operation, the left hand core 17 is in retracted position to allow for the setting of the shuttles when thrown from right to left. Upon the shuttles being received in the left hand shuttle box, the next step in the operation is effected by the rotative action of the left hand cam which closes the left hand circuit closer 37b and this causes the core of the reversing motor device 17 to move to the right and eject the shuttles to be thrown, to the right hand shuttle box. When the left hand circuit closer 37b is closed, the right hand circuit closer 37a is open and both of the circuit closers 38 and 38a are open. Continuation of the rotation of the shaft 11c next causes the left hand circuit closer 37b to open. Following this, the left hand cam 39a is rotated to close the left hand circuit closer 38a and this retracts the core 17 of the left hand motor device. The shuttles have now been shot from left to right ready for the next cycle of operations as just described.
It is obvious that minor changes may be made in the form and construction of this invention without departing from the material principles thereof. It is not therefore desired to confine the invention to the exact form herein shown and described, but it is wished to include all such as properly come within the scope claimed.
