Description

J. R. WALKER.
BOOT JACK'. No. 275,551. Patented Apr. 10,1883.
WITJVESSESl INVEWTOR y 7o-7073, ly/MM A fgfW/f/.
l Y .fttorney UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BOOT-JACK.
JOHN R. WALKER, OF RICHLAND, MISSOURI.
SPECIFICATION forming` part of Letters Patent No. 275,551, dated April 10, 1883.
Application filed October 16, 1882. (Model.)
To all whom it may concern:
l 'Io the upper side and ends of the arms b Be it known that I, JOHN It. WALKER, a are suitably-hinged arms, B, which form excitizen of the United States, residing at Richland, in the county of Pulaski and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boot-Jacks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, referene being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this speciticat-ion, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a perspective view of a boot-jack constructed in accordance withmy invention, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the boot-jack when folded together, and Fig. 3 is an under side view.
The present invention has relation to certain new and useful improvements in that class of boot-jacks provided at the outer end with a toc-piece or strap and adapted to fold together. y
'lbe invention has for its object to improve ,and simplify the construction of the above class of boot-jacks, wherebyit will renderthem more serviceable and practicable, requiring less material in their manufacture, more compact, and less liable to become broken by continued use. These objects I attain by the construction substantially as shown in the drawings, and hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents the main section of the hoot-jack,hav ing upon its under side the usual cleat, a, for supporting it at an angle when placed upon the floor for use, the section atits forward end being formed with the arms b, between which the heel of the boot is placed when using the device.
tensions to the short arms b, and have secured over their forward ends a metal strap, C, through which the toe of the boot is inserted.
When the boot-jack is extended for use, as shown in Fig. 1, the arms B are held rigid by a suitable fastening device, e, upon the under side of the jack.
In the present instance I have shown hooks pivoted to the arms b, which engage with staples secured to the under side of the arms B; but it is evident that any ordinary holding or fastening device may be substituted. The arms B fold down upon the top of the section A, the toe-strap C entering a slot, d, as shown in Fig. 2, thus folding the boot-jack into compact form.
Having now fiillydescribed my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a boot-jack, the section A, formed with slot d and arms b, in combination with the arms vB, having connected to their forward end toe-strap C, and their rear ends hinged to the arms b, and adapted to fold over upon the top of the section A, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two'witnesses.
J. n. WALKER.
