The general object of the present invention is the a provision of a mothproof storage bag having means to introduce a mothproofing agent within the bag without having to open the main compartment which contains the garments, therefore, a minimum of mothproofing vapours will escape from the bag.

Another important object of the present invention is the provision of a mothproof bag of the character described which has means to completely seal the bag from the exterior atmosphere to thereby prevent escape of the mothproofing vapours.

Still another important object of the present invention is the provision of a bag of the character described which is relatively inexpensive to manufacture and which will give a prolonged service.

The foregoing and other important objects of the present invention will become more appareut during the following disclosure and by referring to the drawings in which:

Figure l is a perspective view of the mothproof storage bag according to the present invention;

Figure 2 is a side elevation of the same, partially cut away to show the interior thereof;

Figure 3 is a perspective view of the supporting frame and of the pocket containing a mothproofing agent;

Figure 4 is a cross-section of a part of the top wall adjacent a supporting hook.

Referring now more particularly to the drawings in which like reference characters indicate like elements throughout, the storage bag comprises a top wall 1, side walls 2 and 3 and a bottom wall 4. The top wall 1 is joined to the side walls 3 by means of inclined wall portions 5. One side wall 3 is provided at its middle with a zipper 6, the tapes of which are made of plastic. The plastic tape zipper 6 extends substantially the entire length of said side wall 3 to provide an opening to insert and remove garments such as the garment A shown in Figure 2.

The bag is supported by a rectangular wire frame 7, more particularly shown in Figure 3, adapted to be positioned immediately underneath the top wall 1 and inclined wall portions 5. The frame 7 is composed of the side bars 8 and end bars 9 which lie in substantially the same plane. The ends of bars 8 are bent downwardly at an angle to provide inclined side bar portions 10 joined together by the cross bars 11. The bars 9, 10 and 11 form auxiliary frames 12 which are inclined relatively to the plane containing the bars 8 and 9, and are adapted to support the inclined wall portions 5 of the bag.

A nipple 13 is supported in the middle of one auxiliary frame 12 by links 15 which are secured to a collar 14 by means of rivets 16 and are bent around the bars 10 at 17. The nipple 13 has external threads at its outer end to engage a screw cap 18 which is adapted to tightly close said nipple 13. The nipple 13 tightly engages the inclined Wall portion a and the mouth of a gas pervious 2,752,033 Patented June 26, 1956 pocket 20 is secured around the inner end of the nipple 13 by means of the collar 14. The pocket 20 is preferably made of loosely woven textile material and is designed to receive crystals of a mothproofing agent, preferably pure paradichlorobenzene. The crystals of the mothproofing agent may be inserted within the pocket 20 by removing the screw cap 18; it is not necessary to open the zipper closure 6.

A cross rod 21 is hooked at both ends 22 to the middle kinked portion of the side bars 8. Hooks 19, for suspending the storage bag are secured at intervals along the cross rod 21 by means of sleeves 23, more particularly shown in Figure 4.

The outer end 20 of pocket 20 is attached to th hooks 19 to maintain said pocket in the top of the bag but with the intermediate portion of said pocket free from attachment to the bag and spaced from the walls thereof so as to allow free air circulation around the mothproofing agent in the pocket 20.

In order to prevent escape of the mothproofing vapours through holes 25 which are made in the top wall 1 for the passage of the hooks 19, washers 24 are loosely mounted on the shank of the hooks 19 between the cross rod 21 and the end 20' of the pocket 20. Therefore, as soon as pressure develops inside the storage bag, the washers 24 are pressed against the inside face of the top wall 1 to seal the holes 25.

An additional cross rod 26 is suspended from the cross rod 21 by means of its upstanding legs 27 which are bent back into hooks 28. Cross rod 26 serves to support the hangers B, or the like, from which the garments A are hung. The additional cross rod 26 is preferably provided with corrugations 29 to keep the various garments A at predetermined distances apart.

The walls 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 of the bag, according to the present invention, are preferably made of vinyl resin with a coating of nylon and all the joints are sealed to provide a completely gas-proof enclosure when the zipper 6 is closed. Similarly, the screw cap 18 engages the nipple 13 in a gas-tight manner and nipple 13 is in turn sealed to the inclined wall 5. Finally the washers 24 effect a seal around the shanks of the hooks 22.

It has been found in practice that the storage bag, according to the present invention, is so well sealed that the mothproofing vapours will remain in the bag indefinitely, provided the slide fastener 6 is not opened.

On the other hand, it will be obvious that it is not necessary to disturb the garments within the bag, according to the present invention, or to open the zipper 6 when it is required to add mothproofing solid material within the bag, as the latter is introduced within the pocket 20 by simply removing the screw cap 18.

As storage bags are normally suspended underneath a shelf in wardrobes or the like, and as they usually project forwardly from the front edge of said shelf, they prevent ready access to said shelf. Accordingly, the top wall portions 5 of the storage bag, according to the present invention, are inclined to facilitate access to said shelf.

While a preferred embodiment according to the present invention has been illustrated and described, it is understood that various modifications may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. A storage bag comprising top, side and bottom walls formed of soft flexible sheet material which is gas impervious, a frame of a size and shape conforming to that of said top wall, adapted to be positioned immediately beneath said top wall and comprising a cross piece secured across the middle of said frame hooks secured to said cross piece and extending upwardly therefrom and through said top wall so that the storage bag may be suspended thereby, one of said side walls having a main opening, a slide fastener closure for said opening, a nipple inserted into one of said walls and tightly secured thereto, a removabie gas tight closure for said nipple and a gas pervious pocket extending within said bag and having its intermediate portion spaced from the walls of said bag and having its mouth attached to and surrounding said nipple and its outer end secured to said cross piece whereby solid m'othproofing material introduced through said nipple into said pocket will come into contact with air entering said bag from all sides thereof. 7

2. A storage bag as claimed in claim 1, further including washers freely surrounding the portion of said hooks between said top wall and said cross piece and adapted to seal said top wall around said hooks.

3. A storage bag as claimed in claim 1, including a collar surrounding and securing said pocket mouth around said nipple and means secured to said collar and to the sides of said frame to maintain said' nipple in position relative to said frame.

A storage bag as claimed in claim 1, wherein the ends of said frame are inclined downwardly at an angle and the top portion of at least two opposite side walls of said bag are downwardly inclined so as to be engaged by the inclined end portions of said frame, and further 7 including a collar for securing the mouth of said pocket around said nipple and links secured to said collar at one end and secured to the inclined end portions of said frame at the opposite end so as to maintain said nipple in a predetermined position relative to said frame.

5. A storage bag as claimed in claim 1, wherein at least two of said side walls have an inclined top portion adjacent said top wall and said frame has inclined extensions adapted to conform and maintain said inclined wall portions in position, and said nipple is secured to one of 5 said inclined extensions.

6. A storage bag as claimed in claim 5, wherein said free end of said pocket is secured to said hooks between said cross piece and said top wall.
