Description

ERASTUS BUCK, OF NUNDA, NEW YORK.
COOKING-STOVE.
Specification of Letters Patent N o. 2,750, dated August 6, 1842.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, ERAs'rUs BUCK, of Nunda, in the county of Allegany and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cooking-Stoves; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and eXact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specica tion, in which- Figure l represents the stove with the top plate removed; Fig. 2 the stove wit-h the front and top plates taken off Fig. 3 top plate. i
The nature of my invention consists in placing the furnace or fire chamber over the oven nearly at the back part of the stove, and forming a driving Hue on each side ot' the front doors of the fire chamber which extends down under the oven and up in the rear of the fire chamber and there connects with the pipe.
The fire chamber A, is formed on the top of the oven with only a fiue span Gr, between it and the back of the stove; this flue span also extends down in rear of the oven at G, under the bot-tom at E, and up the front side (c) to the top of the oven where it is divided into tw`o branches C which ascend one on each side of the fire doors (c) in front; between these two branches there is a recess their whole thickness at the back of which the fire doors (a) are placed; this recess forms the hearth of the stove which has an extension outward which is carried around the sides forming a hearth at each end of the lire chamber where there are also doors opening into it; under these doors, are those which open into the oven; the hearth is sunk at the recess similar to most of the stoves now in use which is covered by a sliding hearth H; the partitions betwen the flue span and the ire chamber have openings B, B, C, C, for the smoke to pass through which can be closed by dampers as shown at B which stands vertical and can be moved back and forth in the flue by means of a rod passing through the outer plate in the usual way of constructing and moving suoli dampers. The top plate of the stove is pierced to receive four boilers each of which is placed contiguous to one of the four apertures B, B, or C, C, those in front being over the front flues.
Vhen a lire is lighted it' one or both of the dampers B at the back are opened the smoke passes direct-ly through the apertures B to the pipe but when these dampers are` closed and those in front are opened the smoke is carried forward down in front of the oven under it and up in the rear to the pipe thus passing around the oven; by this arrangement a more equable heat is diused over the oven and the principal part of the heat of the lire can be directed under any of the boilers at pleasure.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- The combination of a fire chamber placed over the oven at its rear, with the diving flues (C) projecting in front and passing around the oven in the manner and for tho purpose herein described.
