1 Claim. (Cl. 632) This invention relates to a scapular worn by devoutly religious people.

It is an object of this invention to provide a scapular having a casing pivotally secured to a frame piece.

This and other objects of this invention will become apparent upon reading the following disclosure taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing in which,

Fig. 1 is a front view of a scapular casing secured to a chain to the other end of which is secured a second identical casing,

Fig. 2 is a right end view showing the single pivot pin used to unite an outer casing to an inner leaf-like frame piece,

Fig. 3 is a left end view showing the integral bridge piece securing the front and rear halves of the casing,

Fig. 4 is a front View showing the frame piece swung outwardly away from the casing to expose the brown cloth therein,

Fig. 6 is a view taken substantially on line 6-6 of Fig. 4 and showing the manner of securing the chain to rivets disposed in the frame piece, and Fig. 7 is a view taken on line 77 of Fig. 1 and showing the manner of hingedly securing the centrally disposed frame piece to the outer casing halves by means of a pivot pin.

Referring now to the drawing, a casing 10 is frictionally secured to a frame piece 11 by means of a pivot pin 12. The casing is preferably of a rectangular configuration resembling a book and preferably is made from metal, though plastic material is also useable.

The casing 10 consists of two half plates 13 and 14 secured together by a narrow bridge 15 integrally united to half plates 13 and 14. The plates 13 and 14 may be identical in construction and may be provided with border ridges 16 and 17.

The single pivot pin 12 (Fig. 7) is disposed between the border strips 16 and 17 and through suitable apertures disposed in plates 13 and 14 and adjacently and intermediately disposed frame piece 11, said apertures being disposed in a diagonally disposed relationship to the bridge piece 15.

The pivot pin 12 is fixedly secured to plates 13 and 14 by means of hemi-spherical rivet heads 18. The bridge piece 15 may be made to be in linear relationship with the respective sides of plates 13 and 14 to which it is secured, in which event the frame piece 11 has a part of its co-acting corner cut away to receive the thus inwardly disposed bridge piece.

" States Patent 0 The frame piece 11 (Figs. 4 and 6) is of U-shaped crosssection and a piece of brown cloth 19 is secured adhesively' thereto. The frame piece 11 having a base panel 2t: integral with opposed vertically disposed walls 21, is provided with an ovaloid aperture 22 in said panel 2% The aperture 22 permits viewing the brown cloth when either face of the frame piece 11 is turned to view. A pair of small apertures 23 are disposed outwardly of the ovaloid aperture 22 and threads 24 are passed through the brown cloth 19 and the apertures 22 and 23 to further secure the cloth 19 to panel 2% of the frame piece 11.

A pair of chains 25 secured to another casing 11 (not shown) are pivotally secured to the panel 29 by means of miniature rivets 26. Panel 21) is provided with recessed cavities 27 of a depth adapted to receive the rivet heads of rivets 26 thereby permitting a planar relationship between the rivet heads and the panel 2% whereby said panel may be swung in between the casing halves 13 and 14 without interference of rivets 25 with the inner surfaces of said half pieces 13 and 14.

This invention has been disclosed by means of an illustrative embodiment but other embodiments will now become obvious upon reading this disclosure, but all these embodiments are intended to be embraced within the scope of the claim herein.

I claim:

A scapular comprising a pair of individual chains disposed in parallel relationship, a rectangular frame piece secured to each end of the parallel chains, said frame piece having walls along three edges thereof defining a rectangular recess open to the edge on the fourth edge, a centrally disposed ovaloid aperture in said frame piece, a pair of recessed rivet receiving apertures in the corners adjacent the said fourth edge of said frame piece, said recesses of said rivet receiving apertures being of a depth to receive a rivet head in planar relationship to the frame piece surface, said chain ends extending into said recess through said fourth edge and overlying said rivet receiving apertures, rivets fixedly securing said chains to said frame piece, cloth member mounted in said rectangular recess and overlying said chain ends, a pair of rectangular plate pieces disposed on each of the sides of each of said frame pieces, a narrow bridge piece integral with said plate pieces and securing a pair of said plate pieces at one corner thereof and adjacent one of the edges of said frame piece that is adjacent said fourth edge, and a pivot pin journaled through a pair of said plate pieces in diagonal relationship to said bridge piece and also through a corner of said frame piece whereby the normally frictionally held frame piece may be rotated outwardly from its locked position to expose said frame piece.
