CASE FOR 'TOl LET-SETS.

SPEGIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 274,610, dated March 27, 1883.

To all wit-om it may concern:

Be it known that we, J o'sEPH O. J ASMAGY, of Brooklyn, E. D., in the county of Kings and State of New York, and DAN H. FROsT, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cases for Toilet-Sets, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The object of our invention is to provide a certain new and useful improvement in cases for toilet-sets, whereby oblong or oval mirrors can be held with equal facility on the cushion or tray in the case.

The invention consists in a cushion or tray for receiving a mirror, which tray is provided with springs adapted to press against the upper end of a mirror, whereby an oval or oblong mirror can be held on the cushion, the oblong mirror pressing the springs sidewise, whereby they remain in their usual position when the oval mirror is held on the cushion.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of referenceindicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure l is a longitudinal elevation of our improved case for toilet-sets, the cover being shown raised, and the cushion in the same holding an oblong mirror. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the cushion, the same holding an oval mirror. Fig. 3 is a crosssectional elevation of the case on line a2 a2, Fig.1, the case being shown closed.

At that end of the cushion A at which the upper end of the mirror is held a cross-piece,

B, is held on the cushion, under which crosspiece the upper endof the mirror is passed.

To the inner surface of each longitudinal side piece, O,of the cushion or tray A a springstrip, D, is secured at one end in such a manner that the free ends of the said spring-strips will be toward that end of thecushion at which the upper end of the mirror is held, which free The cushion or tray is provided with the usual latch, F, for holding the handle end of the mirror in place between two projections, G G, which project from the tray and have their sides rounded, so as to fit closely against the edge of the mirror.

Ordinarily the springs D are in the position shown in Fig. 1 in dotted lines, so that the upper end of an oval mirror, B, will fit closely against the same, as shown in Fig. 2, the fabric of the cushion covering the space between the side pieces, 0, and the spring-strips D. If an oblong mirror, H, is placed on the cushion, the upper corners of the mirror press the spring-strips D toward the side pieces, 0, as shown in Fig. 1, thus permitting the oblong mirror H to be held on the same cushion or tray on which the oval mirror H was held. One kind of cushion or tray will thnsanswer for oblong or oval mirrors.

The latch F, shown, or any other suitable device, may beused for holding the handle end of the mirror in place.

. Having thus described our inveutiomwhatwe claim as new, an d desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A cushion or tray for holding a mirror, constructed, substantially as herein shown and described, with spring-strips D at the end for receiving the upper end of the mirror, as and a for the purposes set forth.

2. In a case for a toilet-set, the combination, with the cushion or tray A, of the springstrips D, adapted to press against the upper end of a mirror held on the cushion, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.

3. In a case for a toilet-set, the combination,

with the cushion or tray A, of the cross-piece I B and the springs D, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.

7 4. In a case for a toilet-set, the combination, with the cushion or tray A, of the cross-piece B, the side pieces, G, and of the springs D, secured to the side pieces, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
