Description
'April 17,' 1955 w. W. JoNEs 2,742,070y
BIBLE AND SUNDAY scHoor; DATA HOLDER Filed May s, 1954 I NVENT OR ATTORNEYS 2,742,070 n Y BIBLE AND SUNDAY SCHOOL DATA HOLDER Willard Winfried Jones, Fort Lauderdale, Application May 3, 1954, Serial No. 427,183 n 2 Claims. (Cl. 150-1.6)
This invention relates to a pocketed container for books and the like and has as its primary object the provision of a soft, flexible container or cover having a plurality of pockets therein separated by partitions interiorly 2,742,070 Patented Apr. 17, 1956 Nce As best shown in Figs. l and 2, the separable fastener halves may be extended upwardly as at 19a-and 20a to ovcrlie the top of the container and may correspondingly extend downwardly and around the bottom thereof.
` cover portion 12.
It will now be readily apparent that any suitable book 25, in the illustrative embodiment shown,` the Holy Bible, may be positioned on either side of the partition 16 and opened at any suitable point as indicated at 26 in Fig. 4. Similarly, any additional other book or books, such as text books 27 and 28, may be positioned on the other side of the partition and opened independently of the book 25, by the opening of the zipper adjacent the rear Conversely, the book 25 may be opened to any suitable place by the opening of its associated zipper, without disturbingthe other book or books.
By virtue of the flexibility of the cover member, it is unnecessary to remove any of the volumes for opening at of the container, each pocket being individually closable by means of a separate fastener such as a Zipper or the like. i
An additional object of the invention is the provision of means whereby the books contained in the receptacle or cover may be opened to any desired position without the necessity of removing the same from the cover.
A further object of the invention is the provision of such a device which is sufficiently flexible to permit relatively easy handling of the books or other articles contained therein, which is sturdy and durable in construction, which will electively protect the contents, which is light in weight, and which may be manufactured with a relative minimum of expense and difliculty.
Still other objects reside in the combinations of elements, arrangements of partitions, and features of construction, all as will be more fully pointed out hereinafter and disclosed in the accompanying drawing wherein is lshown a perfected embodiment of this inventive concept.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of one form of container embodying features of the instant invention.
Fig. 2 is a similar perspective view, but taken from th opposite side thereof.V i i Fig. 3` is a` sectional view taken substantially along the line 3 3 of Fig. 1 on an enlarged scale.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary view, partially in top elevation and partially in section, showing the container or holder in open position. .j
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary perspective j view, partially sectioned, showing the container in open position, and
Fig. 6 is a fragmentary perspective view of the central partition disassociated from the container.
Having reference now to the drawingin detail, the container of the instant invention, generally indicated at 10, includes a front cover 11 and a rear cover 12 preferably integral with and connected by a back portion 13. Suitably stitched to the back portion 13, as by means of stitching 14, are outwardly extending tabs or anges 15, comprising the rear end of a central partition 16. The central partion 16 extends forwardly the full length of the front and rear walls 11 and 12, and has secured to opposite sides thereof as by means of stitching 17 the flanged portions 18 of oppositely disposed separable fastener halves 19. The opposite half 20 of each separable kfastener is secured to the adjacent front or rear Wall as bystitching 21, the arrangement being such that the separate portions 19 and 20 will co-act in the customary fashion.
As best shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the outer extremes of both the front and rear cover portions 11 and 12 are inwardly turned, as at 22 and 23 respectively, and slightly stitfened to provide marginal anges for the ends of the covers.
`any desired place.
`books which is light in weight, flexible in construction,
and which material facilitates the handling of such books y as well as protecting the same, and which accomplishes all of the objects of this invention and others, including many advantages of great practical utility.
As `many embodiments may be made of this inventivev concept and as many modilications may be made in this embodiment, it is to be understood that all matter hereinbefore shownand described is to be interpreted merely as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
It is to be understood that this invention relates to a flexible container comprising in one piece a front cover, a rear cover, and a back. This container may be formed from an integral piece of material such as leather or like material. Thepartition 16 has the T-shaped structure 15 at its inner end which snugly lits the one-piece container at the back thereof, Fig. 2.
VI claim:
l. A container construction designed to house books, comprising a front cover and a rear cover, a back portion connecting said front and rear covers, a broad dat, central portion providedat its inner end with outwardlyextending flat integral tabs, said tabs fastened to the inside of said back portion, inwardly-extending tlanged portions on opposite sides of said central dat portion and at its covers, said central portion providedon its rear` with integral oppositely extending tabs, said tabs secured to the inner face of said back portion, and means on the front edges of said front cover, rear cover, and central portion for fastening all in a closedposition.
