Description

March 27, 1956 G. PoGGl DOUBLE-FRAMED wINnows 2 Sheets-Sheet l Filed Oct. 51 1951 March 27, 1956 G. PoGGl A 2,739,355
DOUBLE-FRAMED WINDOWS Filed Oct. 3l 1951 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 This invention relates to windows and especially to windows such as the sliding and the swinging windows which when in open position are not easy to clean at the outer side and aims to provide means for easily effecting the cleaning and/or small repairs of such windows from the interior.
This end is attained, according to the invention, by mounting the window of the types above referred to in counterframes which are rotatably mounted in the usual fixed frame.
The invention will be better understood from the following description of two embodiments shown in the annexed drawing, in which:
Figure l is a vertical section on line l-I of Figure 2, showing a window with a single sash swinging on horizontal pivots and mounted within a counter-frame which can be swung on vertical pivots in a fixed frame.
Figure 2 is a section on line ll-II of Figure l; the pivotal mounting of the counter-frame of the window shown in Figure 1 in its fixed frame.
Figure 3 is another embodiment of swinging window in which the window frame swings on vertical pivots and the counterframe on horizontal pivots, and
Figure 4 shows a vertical section and Fig. 5 a horizontal section of a window with balanced slidable sash pairs.
Figures l and 2 show a window of the type which may be opened by swingably balancing its sash A in its counter-frame C about horizontal pivots F arranged in the side members of said sash A midway between the top and bottom members thereof. Counterframe C in its turn is swingably balanced so as t be opened together with sash A by turning about vertical pivots F' mounted in the top and bottom members of a xed frame D midway between the side members thereof. Latchng or bolting means diagrammatically shown at B and B are provided for permitting of rigidly fastening A to C and/ or C to D.
The embodiment shown in Figure 3 differs from that shown in Figures 1 and 2 only therein, that the sash A turn on vertical pivots F and the counter-frame C on horizontal pivots F.
ln case of windows with slidable sashes A'-A (Figures 4 and 5) these are mounted in a counterframe C which can be swung about pivots F in a fixed frame D. A single latch B is provided for latching C to D.
It will be understood that, although for simplicity the pivots F have been shown as simple pivots, in practice States Patent they will be in form of rotatable supporting means, as generally employed for swinging windows or the like. Also the latches will not be restricted to the diagrammatical devices as shown, but will be of any suitable commercial type.
I claim:
1. A double-framed window comprising a iixed frame having two pairs of spaced parallel frame members, a counterframe having two pairs of spaced parallel frame members, a window sash, a pair of pivots located in one pair of said iixed frame members midway between its other pair of frame members to swingably balance said counterframe in said fixed frame, a second pair of pivots located in one pair of said counterframe members midway between its other pair of frame members and at right angles to the axes of the first pair of pivots to swingably balance the window sash in said counterframe, means for opening and closing said window sash, and means for latching said window sash to the counterframe and the counterframe to the iixed frame.
2. A double-framed window comprising a fixed frame having side members and top and bottom members, a counterframe having side members and top and bottom members, a window sash, a pair of pivots located in top and bottom members of said fixed frame midway between its side members to swingably balance said counterframe in said fixed frame, a second pair of pivots located in the sides of the counterframe midway between the top and bottom members of said counterframe to swingably balance the window sash in said counterframe, means for opening and closing said window sash and means for latching said window sa'sh to the counterframe and the counterframe to the iixed frame.
3. A double-framed window comprising a fixed frame having side members and top and bottom members, a counterframe having side members and top and bottom members, a window sash, a pair of pivots located in the side members of said fixed frame midway between top and bottom members to swingably balance said counterframe .in said xed frame, a second pair of pivots located in the top and bottom members of the counterframe midway between the side members of said counterframe to swingably balance the window sash in said counterframe, means for opening and closing said window sash, and means for latching said window sash to the counterframe and the counterframe to the fixed frame.
4. A double-framed window as claimed in claim 1, in which the window sash is of the type comprising a pair of sashes slidably mounted within said counterframe.
