Application September 9, 1952, Serial No. 308,660 3 Claims. (Cl. 101-111) This invention relates to date and number stamps, wherein the numbers and printed matter indicating days and months of the year, are carried by endless bands operating over wheels to effect the ready changing of the combinations of numbers and printed matter, at the will of the operator.
An important object of the invention is to provide a number stamp of this character, wherein the individual endless bands or webs may move bodily vertically with respect to each other, thereby adapting the stamp for use in stamping or printing on irregular surfaces.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations 'sr'pans hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claims, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of t e invention as claimed.

Referring to the drawing in detail, the stamp forming the subject matter of the present invention, comprises the frame indicated generally by the reference character 5, the frame being inverted U shape as clearly shown by Fig. 1 of the drawing.
Supported between the side members 6 of the frame 5, is the metal block 7 which is secured in position by means of the bolts 8 that extend through openings in the metal block 7 and side members 6, as clearly shown by the drawing.
Mounted within the grooves 5' formed in the outer surfaces of the metal block 7 and extending around the side edges of said metal block 7, are the rectangular web supporting frames 12 on which the webs 13 are mounted, which webs are supplied with numbers and printed matter so that the days of the month and months of the year may be changed in accordance with the requirements of use.
The webs or belts indicated by the reference character 13 also operate over the wheels 9 and over the lower edges of the rectangular web supports 12, there being provided coiled springs 14 disposed between the lower edge of the metal block and lower walls of the rectangular web supports, the coiled springs acting to normally bias the rectangular web supports downwardly on said metal block.
The rectangular web supporting frames are provided with upstanding space flanges 16 which are formed with openings in which the individual shafts 17 are mounted,

Operating wheels for rotating said shafts wheels 11 being knurled 9 to rotate there- 11 are secured to the shafts 17 and wheels, the edges of the so that they may be readily rotated by a person moving his thumb or finger thereover, in order to move the wheels 9 and webs 13 to change the printed matter appearing on the stamping end of the stamp.
The device is provided with the handle 15 by means of which the stamp may be conveniently manipulated in placing dates on articles.
From the foregoing it will be seen that due to the construction shown and described, the stamp may be used in stamping on surfaces which are slightly irregular, the various webs or belts moving vertically independently of each other, to compensate for such irregularities in the surface on which the stamp is used.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
l. A number stamp comprising a frame having an open lower end, a stationary member mounted within the frame, said stationary member having longitudinally disposed spaced grooves formed in the outer surface thereof, individual rectangular frames mounted on and extending around said stationary member movable within said grooves, said rectangular frames extending beyond the lower end of the stationary member, wheels mounted on the upper ends of the rectangular frames, webs having indicia thereon operating over said wheels and lower ends of the rectangular frames opposite to said wheels, springs disposed within the frames bearing against the lower ends of the stationary members biasing said frames away from the stationary member, and means for effecting rotation of said wheels.
2. A number stamp comprising an inverted U-shaped main frame including side members, a stationary block secured between the side members, stamp units, said stamp units embodying rectangular frames fitted around and movable over said stationary blocks, wheels mounted on the upper ends of said rectangular frames, said rectangular frames extending below the lower ends of said block and said main frame, endless webs having indicia thereon operating over said wheels and lower ends of the rectangular frames, and coil springs mounted between the lower end of said stationary block and rectangular frames, yieldably and independently supporting the rectangular frames for vertical movement within the main frame and with respect to the stationary block, independently of each other.
3. A number stamp comprising a main frame having an open lower end, a stationary member secured within the main frame, a plurality of stamp units embodying rectangular frames fitted around and movable over said stationary member, said frames extending below said block and open end of the main frame, wheels mounted on the upper ends of said rectangular frames, endless webs moving over the lower ends of said rectangular frames and wheels, whereby said webs are moved by rotating said wheels, and coiled springs disposed between said stationary member and rectangular frames, normally biasing the rectangular frames outwardly with respect to the stationary member, independently of each other.
