7 Claims. (Cl. 259- 72) ing cylinder, such as a pipe mold used for making concrete pipe by the centrifugal method. It is a particular object to provide new and improved means for mounting and utilizing a roller member on the vibrator and providing means for yieldably forcing the roller into contact with the periphery of the rotating pipe mold.
Another object is to provide such a construction which serves to highly efliciently transmit the generated vibrations of the vibrator to the pipe mold.
A further object is to provide a simple construction which can be readily fabricated and which is easy to install and operate. Theseand other objects will be apparent from the drawing and the following description.
Referring to the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of a pipe mold shown mounted on supporting rollers and showing my invention associated therewith;
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary sectional view on a larger scale on line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a section on line 33 of Fig. 2; and
Fig. 4 is a sectional view through a vibrator showing another type of roller mounting.
More particularly describing the invention, numeral 11 indicates a cylindrical pipe mold which is shown mount ed on supporting rollers 12, one or more of which are customarily driven to impart high velocity rotation to the mold in order to compact concrete 13 introduced thereinto.
In the centrifugal molding process it is highly desirable to be able to vibrate the pipe mold ata high frequency but low amplitude. By the means which I shall disclose, I am able to transmit the vibrations set up by the vibrator directly to the rotating mold with a high degree of efficiency. I provide a standard vibrator 15 which may be operated by compressed air supplied through a hose 16. The vibrator has an air motor 17 which operates a shaft 18 driving or rotating an cecentric weight 19. I mount the vibrator on a base 20 in the form of an inverted channel. The base is pivotally mounted upon a supporting frame 21 on a founda tion 22. For this purpose the base is provided with a pair of rigidly mounted, dependent, laterally spaced arms 23 and 24 which are splined to a shaft 25 pivotally mounted in frame 21. Arm 23 is made long enough to extend below the shaft, the lower end being pivotally connected to piston rod 26 of fluid ram 27.
The vibrator is clamped to base 20 by a saddlelike channel element 29 welded to the base and by a removable similar saddle-like element 30,.the parts 29 and 30 being secured by bolts 31.
For the purpose of transmitting the vibrations gen? erated. by vibrator 15 to the mold 11, I mount a roller 40 on the vibrator for rolling contact with a peripheral band or track 41 on the surface of the mold. This roller is mounted on a pin 42, the roller having a suitable bushing 43. The pin has its ends mounted in the lugs 44a of a band 44 which encircles the body of the vibrator. A shrink fit of the band on the vibrator is preferred. The lugs are welded to the band. The band 44 which supports roller 40 is preferably mounted on the portion of the vibrator immediately surrounding the region of the eccentric weight 19 of the vibrator so as to take advantage of maximum vibration.
In the operation of the device, the ram 27 is used for tilting the platform 20 in a direction toward the mold 11 so as to firmly press the roller 40 into engagement with track 41 on the mold. It will be apparent that the ram 27 may be appropriately operated to retract the vibrator assembly from the mold at any time.
In Fig. 4 I show a modified form of construction wherein .a band 50 having lugs or end portions 51 is secured tightly to the vibrator by one or more bolts 52, a spacer sleeve 53 preventing overtightening of the bolt. The same roller 40 is mounted on pin 41.
Although I have illustrated and described a preferred form of my invention, 1 contemplate that various changes and modifications can be made without departing from the invention, the scope of which is indicated by the following claims.
I claim:
1. In means for imparting vibratory movement to a rotating object resting on support rollers and having a substantially cylindrical peripheral surface, a vibrator, means supporting said vibrator adjacent the peripheral surface of said object, and a vibrator roller mounted on said vibrator between the vibrator and said object in rolling contact with said peripheral surface of the object.

In means for imparting vibratory movement to a rotating object resting on support rollers and having a substantially cylindrical peripheral surface, a vibrator, means supporting said vibrator for movement toward and away from said object, a vibrator roller mounted on said vibrator between the vibrator and said. object for rolling contact with said peripheral surface of the object, and means for yieldably forcing said vibrator and vibrator roller as a unit toward said rotating object.
3. In means for imparting vibratory movement to a rotating object having a substantially cylindrical peripheral surface, a vibrator, means supporting said vibrator formovement toward and away from said object, a band tightly encircling said vibrator, a pair of spaced mounting lugs integral with said band, and a roller mounted between said lugs and projecting therebeyond for engagement with said peripheral surface of the object.
4. A construction as set forth in claim 3 in which said band is shrunk onto said vibrator and in which said lugs are welded to said band.
5. A construction as set forth in claim 3 in which said band is bolted about said vibrator and in which said lugs are end portions of said band.
6. In means for imparting vibratory movement to a rotating cylindrical form for casting concrete, a sta tionary frame, a vibrator base member pivotally mounted on said frame, a vibrator secured to said base member laterally of the pivotal axis of the base member, a roller mounted on said vibrator for engagement with the periphery of said form, the axis of rotation of said roller being parallel to the axis of rotation of the form, and a fluid ram between said stationary frame and said -"g,724,5s2., vib'rz'a'tor s member for urging said roller into pressure and roller as a unit into pressure engagement with said 'engagemenrwithsaid 01111. fuuu.
