1 Claim. (Cl. 128-155) This invention relates to adhesive material used for covering the skin or other surfaces.

It is an object of the present invention to provide an improved skin covering material wherein means are provided for quickly and easily skinning back or removing the crinoline from the piece of the face of the material just prior to use.

It is another object of the present invention to provide adhesive material for covering skin and other surfaces wherein crinoline adhering to the adhesive surface of the material is provided with a plurality of pleats which are adapted to be split at the time of manufacture or just prior to use to facilitate the removal of the gauze from the adhesive surfaces.

Other objects of the present invention are to provide a skin covering material bearing the above objects in mind which is of simple construction, inexpensive to manufacture, has a minimum number of parts, is easy to use and efficient in operation.

For other objects and a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:

Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary perspective view showing the various layers of material comprising the invention;

Fig. 4 is a perspective view of one form of bandage cut from the main body of material of Fig. 1; and

Fig. 5 is a perspective view of another form of bandage cut from the main body of material of Fig. 1.

Referring now to the figures, wherein similar reference numerals identify corresponding parts throughout the several views, there is shown in Fig. 1 a main body of skin covering flexible material 10, waterproofed if desired, having an adhesive surface 11 by means of which the material is secured to the skin or other surface. Crinoline 12 is secured to the adhesive face 11 during manufacture, and a protective covering 12a may, or may not, be provided on top of the crinoline 12.

In the practice of my invention, either the crinoline 12 alone or also a protective covering 12a is secured to the adhesive surface 11 during manufacture with a plurality of parallel pleats 13, substantially as illustrated. The main body of the assembly (Fig. 1) is then cut into the required bandages, as shown in Fig. 4 and Fig. 5. It will be noted in Fig. 4 that the main body has been out between adjacent pairs of pleats 13 and along a line parallel to the latter. When it is desired to use the adhesive material 10 and to remove the gauze 12 and optional protective covering 12a, it is only necessary to slit the pleats 13 by inserting one blade of a scissors into these pleats and cutting the same along their edges 13a (Fig. 2). The upper portion of each of the pleats thus split may then be grasped between the fingers to facilitate the skinning back or removal of the gauze 12 and covering 12a from the adhesive surface 11 and permitting the instant and quick application of the latter to the skin. Thus, the material 10 and the adhesive surface thereof can be utilized during emergencies with a minimum of time and effort merely by splitting the pleats 13 along their edges 13a to provide a tab and permitting the ready removal of the crinoline and protective covering from the adhesive surface. The pleats 13 may be split along the edges 13a just prior to use or, if desired, during manufacture. The individual bandages (Figs. 4 and 5) will be cut from the main body during manufacture, or just prior to shipment and distribution.

While the pleated material has been described in reference to bandages, it will be apparent that the construction is equally applicable to gaskets and wherever it is necessary to secure adhesive material to a surface.

While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention, as defined by the appended claim.

Having thus set forth and disclosed the nature of my invention, what is claimed is:

As an article of manufacture, a layer of flexible material adapted to cover the skin or the like, a layer of adhesive material secured to one face of said flexible material by means of which the material is attached to the skin or the like, and a layer of crinoline disposed across said adhesive surface, said crinoline being formed with a plurality of pleats, extending substantially parallel to the plane of the layer of flexible material, said pleats being equally spaced from each other and substantially parallel and extending from one edge of the flexible material to the other, including a layer of protective covering material provided adjacent said crinoline on the face thereof remote from said adhesive material, said protective covering material being provided with pleats coinciding with said pleats in said crinoline.
