1 Claim. (Cl. 155-489) This invention relates to the class of furnishings and more particularly to a novel support for a baby.

The primary object of this invention resides in the provision of a support for a baby especially adapted to be used to prop up and support a baby otherwise unable to attain a sitting position.

The construction of this invention features a cushion of such shape and configuration as to maintain a baby in a satisfactory position effectively preventing the baby from sagging into muscle straining positions which may be harmful to a baby.

Additional advantages of the invention reside in the upwardly diverging side portions which eliminate the risk of a babys head striking the sides of a carriage, bassinet, crib or the like. Additionally the centrally disposed seam forming a hollow between the pillows formed thereby permits the baby to be comfortably wedged in a position where he may be easily and comfortably fed. An angularly extending seat portion together with a relatively wide band or strap both holds the baby securely while providing suitable support for I the upper leg portions of the baby.

Still further objects and features of the invention reside in the provision of a support for a baby that is durable, simple in construction and manufacture, capable of being manufactured from various readily available materials such as fabric covered down, foam rubber, or the like so as to provide a soft and resilient structure, and which is highly attractive in appearance.

These, together with the various ancillary objects and features of the invention are attained by this support for a. baby, a preferred embodiment of which is shown in the accompanying drawing, by way of example only, wherein:

Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the manner of employment of this support for a baby;

Figure 2 is a front elevational view of this device;

Figure 3 is a side elevational view of the baby support comprising the present invention; and

Figure 4 is an end elevational view illustrating with greatest clarity the upwardly diverging side wall of the cushion forming head supporting pillows for a baby.

10 generally designates the device comprising the present invention. This support for a baby 10 is formed from a cushion 12 of any suitable material which may be covered with a selected fabric. The cushion 12 consists of a seat portion 14 having an upwardly angularly extending upper surface, and pillow sections 16 and 18 defined by a central seam 2i), and the upwardly and outwardly diverging sides of the cushion 12. The recess or hollow formed by the seam 20 between the pillow sections 16 and 18 are adapted to receive the body and head portions of a baby therein, while the upper surface 22 of the seat portion 14 is adapted to support the upper leg portions of a baby.

Secured to the cushion 12 by means of the stitching forming the seam 20 and at the seam 20 is a comparatively wide band or strap including strap sections 24 and 26, which is adapted to encompass the baby about the central body portions thereof and in an adjustable manner utilizing fastener elements 23 and 30 which as shown, are formed in sets. Since from the foregoing, the construction and advantages of this support for a baby are readily apparent, further description is believed to be unnecessary.

However, since numerous modifications will occur to those skilled in the art after a consideration of the foregoing specification and accompanying drawing, it is not intended to limit the invention to the precise embodiment shown and described, but all suitable modifications and equivalents may be readily resorted to.

Having heretofore disclosed my invention, what is claimed as new is:

A support for a baby comprising a resilient cushion having an angularly upwardly extending back supporting portion, an angularly upwardly extending seat portion, said seat portion extending divergently at an obtuse angle relative to said back supporting portion, and a strap secured to said cushion for holding a baby in a secure manner, said back supporting portion having a central seam dividing said back supporting portion into two pillow sections forming a back receiving hollow therebetween, said strap being secured to said cushion at said seam, said straps having a plurality of sets of fasteners thereon for providing means for adjustably fastening said straps, the sides of said cushion extending divcrgingly upwardly to form an enlarged head supporting surface.
