3 Claims. (Cl. 211-41) My present invention relates to dish drainers of the type comprising an open basket-like structure, utilized for draining of dishes, glassware, silverware, and like utensils after the same have been washed.

The principal object of my invention is to provide such a dish drainer having novel provision for supporting drinking glasses, cups or like articles thereon.

It is a particular object of my invention to provide means for supporting drinking glasses, cups or like articles in inverted position on the outside of the dish drainer, thereby leaving more room for dishes and other articles on the inside of the drainer.

A further object of my invention is to provide such means for supporting drinking glasses, cups and like articles as integral elements of the dish drainer, rather than as a separate accessory thereto.

In carrying my invention into practice, I provide a dish drainer comprising a basket-like structure consisting of a wire frame, spaced longitudinal wire members connected to said frame and spaced transverse wire members connected to said frame. The longitudinal wire members and certain of the transverse wire members form bottom and side portions. Other of said transverse wire members form bottom portions of said structure and have their ends extending outwardly of said side portions of the structure. The outwardly extending ends of the latter transverse wire members are provided with glass holding elements. For this purpose, the extremities of the last mentioned transverse wire members may be formed with loop portions constituting said glass holding elements.

Figure 4 is a section taken on the line 44 of Figure 1.

As shown in the drawings, the dish drainer generally designated by the numeral 1, comprises a basket-like structure consisting of a wire frame 2, spaced longitudinal wire members 3 connected to the frame 2, and spaced transverse wire members 4 connected to the frame member 2 and also connected to the wire members 3 at their crossing points. Said longitudinal wire members 3 and transverse wire members 4, constitute bottom and side portions of the dish drainer structure 1. The said dish drainer structure 1 further comprises other transverse wire members 5, connected to the longitudinal members 3 at their crossing points. These latter transverse members 5 constitute bottom portions of the dish drainer structure 1, and have their ends extending outwardly of the side portions of the dish drainer formed by the upward extensions of 4a of the transverse wire members 4, as best seen in Figure 3. In this connection, it may be noted that the transverse members 4 are bent upwardly as at 4b to form the side portions 4a of the drainer. Similarly, the longitudinal wire members 3 are bent upwardly as at 31) to form the other side portions 3a of the dish drainer structure.

As best seen in Figures 3 and 4, the transverse wire members 5 at the sides of the dish drainer structure, are bent upwardly as at 5a so that the portions 5b thereof extend upwardly and outwardly of the side portions of the drainer structure formed by the portions 4a of the other transverse wire members 4. The upper extremities of the portion 5b of the transverse wire members 5 ice . 2 are formed with loop portions 5c, constituting the glass holding elements. As seen in Figures 3 and 4, these glass holding elements are disposed outwardly of the side portions of the drainer structure formed by the side portions 4a of the' transverse wire members 4.

A reinforcing wire frame member 6 extends around the sides of the dish drainer structure and is secured to the portions 3a and 4a of the longitudinal and transverse wire members 3 and 4 forming the sides of the drainer structure.

The transverse wire members 4 and 5 are formed with upwardly extending dish spacing portions 40 and 5d respectively, the same extending upwardly from the bottom portions thereof and disposed intermediate the side portions of said dish drainer structure. Certain of the longitudinal wire members 3 are provided with downwardly extending portionsfic constituting legs for supporting the dish drainer structure in spaced relation to a kitchen sink or work table upon which the same is disposed.

In the use of the dish drainer of the invention, drinking glasses or like articles will be hung in inverted condition over the glass holding elements in the manner shown in the drawing, whereby the rim of such glass or other article, indicated by the numeral 7 rests on the wire frame member 6 and the glass holding element 50 engages the inside of the glass 7 or like article, as shown.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:

1. A dish drainer of the class described, comprising a basket-like structure consisting of a continuous wire frame defining the upper marginal edge of said structure, spaced longitudinal wire members having their end portions extending upwardly from the intermediate portion and connected to said frame, and spaced transverse wire members having their end portions extending upwardly from the intermediate portion and connected to said frame, said longitudinal and transverse wire members forming bottom and side portions of said structure, other transverse wire members connected to said longitudinal members and forming bottom portions of said structure and having their end portions extending upwardly from their bottom portions adjacent to the outer sides of said side portions, and glass holding elements on the extremities of said last wire members, said first mentioned transverse wire members having upwardly extending dish spacing portions intermediate the side portions of said structure, wherein said second mentioned transverse wire members are formed with loop portions at said extremities disposed substantially parallel to the adjacent side and constituting said glass holding elements.

A dish drainer of the class described, comprising a basket-like structure consisting of a continuous wire frame, defining the upper marginal edge of said structure, spaced longitudinal wire members having their end portions extending upwardly from the intermediate portion and connected to said frame, and spaced transverse wire members having their end portions extending upwardly from the intermediate portion and connected to said frame, said longitudinal and transverse wire members forming bottom and side portions of said structure, other transverse wire members connected to said longitudinal members and forming bottom portions of said structure and having their end portions extending upwardly from their bottom portions adjacent to outer sides of said side portions, and glass holding elements on the extremities of said last wire members, in which the said last mentioned end portions of transverse wire members are disposed outwardly from the plane of the end portions of the first mentioned transverse wire members and terminate below the plane of the continuous wire frame to support glasses at the adjacent sides of the drainer.

A dish drainer comprising a basket-like structure made of spaced longitudinal and transverse wires forming a basket bottom, said wires extending upward at the ends to form sides for the basket structure, and other wires fixed near the bottom of said structure and inclined outwardly at their upper ends from the plane of the side adjacent thereto to provide glass supporting elements, and a top continuous horizontal frame connecting the upwardly bent ends of the wires other than those forming the glass supporting elements and located above the said supporting elements, combined with a reinforcing wire frame member extending around the sides of the basket-like structure and connected to the upwardly extending ends of the said wires at points above the bottom and below the horizontal frame to provide rest means for and engageable by the rims of glasses invertedly car ried by said glass supporting elements.
