This invention relates to display devices and more particularly to display devices for merchandise which is fiat or in a fiat package.

An object of the present invention is to provide a simplified display unit which can be associated in one or more units as desired, with a suitable base and to adapted to display merchandise either from the floor of a showroom or from a counter, as may be desired.

A further object of the invention is to provide a simplified display device by means of which a large number of articles of merchandise can be efiiciently displayed in a limited space with free access to each article, and means for readily inspecting any of the articles, as may be desired, from either side so as to acquaint oneself with their nature.

A further object of the invention is to provide a simplified display device of the character indicated which can be fabricated for the most part from sheet material and readily assembled in an economical manner.

Further objects will more particularly appear in the course of the following detailed description.

The invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and combinations of parts hereinafter more particularly described and claimed.

Two sheets of drawings accompany this specification as part thereof, in which like reference characters indicate like parts throughout.

In the following description, reference will be made to the display of phonograph records, but this is merely illustrative of one type of merchandise which may be displayed.

In the embodiment of the present invention herein illustrated, a circular base I is provided upon which is mounted a centrally positioned fixed shaft 2 to which is secured adjacent its top a collar 3 provided with radially disposed threaded sockets to receive radial arms 4 adapted to support a circular top 5.

Intermediate the base I and top 5 are positioned one or more of the display units which are the subject-matter of the present invention, and which may be used to display phonograph records or other merchandise, it being understood that the number of such units will depend upon selection and the length of the shaft 2 provided.

Each of these display units comprises a drum formed by spaced disks 8 and 9, each of these disks being provided with a central orifice adapted to rotatably fit upon the shaft 2, and the positioning of each unit with respect to the shaft 2 is being determined by transverse pins 6 which are inserted through suitable orifices in the shaft and arranged to extend diametrically therethrough. Over each of the pins 6 is provided a washer l to carry the weight of the drum.

Each of the disks 8 and 9 is formed with a similar peripheral groove, the bottom disk 8 having the peripheral groove I1 opening downwardly, while the upper disk 9 has its peripheral groove l8 opening upwardly, and within these peripheral grooves are provided circumferentially spaced bearing holes 23 adapted to provide bearings for the record brackets hereinafter described.

The disks 8 and 9 are held in parallel spaced relationship by a spider-like structure comprising a plurality of substantially rectangular lates II which have the marginal portion adjacent one edge angularly disposed With respect to the main body of the plate so as to engage the body of an adjacent plate and be secured thereto as by short bolts 24. The angularly disposed portions [2 of each of the plates ll form a box-like structure surrounding and engaging the sides of the tubular shaft 2 and thereby constituting an elongated bearing for the drum.

Flanges 13 are formed on the upper and bottom edges of each of the plates H, which flanges i3 lie in a common plane with respect to each disk and provide seats for the disks '3 and 9 which are secured to the said flanges as by short bolts 2 Underlying each of the bottom disks 8 are a plurality of radially disposed rods Hi, the inner ends of which rods are secured as by bolts I5 to the bottom disk and the flange [3 of one of the spider members, and the outer ends of the rods 16 are flattened and bent upwardly to form seats [9 for a ring 29, thus held in spaced concentric relationship to the drum. The outer face of the ring 20 can be, if desired, provided with a facing ring 22 to provide a finish to the structure.

Mounted between the peripheral channel portions l1 and I8 of the disks 8 and 9 are a plurality of record holding brackets illustrated in greater detail in Figures to 8.

Two modified forms of this supporting bracket are shown, but the major elements of th two forms are the same.

In the form of bracket illustrated in Figure 5 a right angle member 25 of channel cross-section is provide, the channel of both legs opening inwardly to provide a runway and seat for a record. A reinforcing brace and guide member is formed of stiff wire bent into rectangular form as at 2.6 and extending diagonally between th free ends of the right angle member 25. The ends of the brace member 25 embrace the free ends of the right angle member and are secured thereto so as to provide vertical support to the horizontal leg and the record contained therein. At the same time the spaced side portions of the member 26 provide guideways for the record and stabilize the record in position upon the bracket. The vertical leg of the right angle member is provided with pivot pins 29 in alignment and substantially parallel with the back wall of the bracket, which pivot members are adapted to operate in the pivot holes 23 in the channels I! and [8 of the drum.

A U-shaped member 2'! is seated on the free end of the horizontal leg of the right angle member, the sides of this U-shaped member being provided with parallel horizontal slots 28 adapted to receive an identifying card. These U-shaped members, it will be observed, embrace both the side flanges of the bracket leg and also the brace wires 28, and these U-shaped members are secured to the bottom of the right angle member by suitable clips.

In the modified form of bracket illustrated in Figures 6 to 8, there is provided in addition to the brace and guide member 25 a central spacer wire 42, the upper end of which is bent outwardly through a slot 41 cut in the upper end of the vertical leg of the right angle channel member 40, and looped about the upper end of the brace wire 26, as at 43, and thence extended to form the pivot 29'. The other end of the spacer wire 42 is looped through a slot 49 formed in the horizontal leg of the right angle member, and bent under the crossed ends of the wire forming the brace 25, as at 45, and thence up within the horizontal leg and parallel therewith, as at 46, to the bend in the right angle member at which point it is bent downwardly to form the bottom pivot 29', as is well illustrated in Figure 7. By this structure, it will be observed that the spacer wire 42 extends substantially parallel with the reaches of the brace wire 26 and divides the right angle channel member into two compartments with suitable guide means to accommodate two records upon each bracket.

The U-shaped clips 41 are provided with horizontal spaced slits 28 as in clips 21 and also em- 4 brace the outer sides of the brace wires 26 and flanges of the horizontal arm of the bracket 40 being held to the latter as by prongs 48 struck therefrom.

If desired, the brackets may be reversed in the supporting frame to display drapes and the like, and various modifications in the precise structure will suggest themselves to those skilled in the art, but within the scope of the present invention as claimed.

What is claimed is:

1. A merchandise supporting bracket for display devices of the character indicated comprising, a right angle member, the legs of which are of channel cross-section, a combined brace and merchandise guide comprising a stifif wire formed into rectangular form and arranged to embrace the free end of each leg of the right angle member and secured thereto to form with the channels in the leg members a runway and guide for the merchandise, and a second stiff wire arranged intermediate and substantially parallel with the sides of said brace and guide wire, the upper end of said second wire engaging the upper end of the brace wire and terminating in an upwardly extending pivot part while the opposite end of the second wire lies in the bottom of the channel of the horizontal leg of the bracket and has its extreme end directed outwardly at the bend of the right angle member to constitute a downwardly extending pivot pin.

A merchandise supporting bracket for display devices of the character indicated comprising, a right angle member, the legs of which are of channel cross-section, a combined brace and merchandise guide comprising a stifi wire formed into rectangular form and arranged to embrace the free end of each leg of the right angle member and secured thereto to form with the channels in the leg members a runway and guide for the merchandise, and a second wire arranged intermediate and substantially parallel with the sides of said brace and guide wire with its upper end looped around the upper end of said brace wire and terminating in an upwardly extending pivot part, said second wire looped intermediate its ends around the lower ends of said brace wire and extending thence within and medial of the channel of the horizontal leg of the right angle member to the bend in said member and extending thence to form a downwardly directed pivot aligned with said upper pivot.
