Description

May 11, 1954 F. B. FLORES 2,678,164
BOTTLE OPENER METER Filed July 16, 1951 /11111111 m I m lerizandafll 'lores INVENTOR 1 I I BY I I I I ATTORNEYS- Patented May 11, 1954 UNITED STATE g i l OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to a device designed for attachment to a cabinet used in dispensing bottled beverages, the object of the invention being to provide means for recording the number of beverage bottles opened by the opener which forms a part of the usual beverage dispensing cabinet, thereby providing a record for indicating the number of bottled beverages sold.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claim, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
Referring to the drawing,
Figure 1 is an elevational view of a portion of a beverage dispensing cabinet, illustrating the usual bottle opener.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view through the front wall of the cabinet and opener.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the attachment, the opener being shown in horizontal section.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference character 5 indicates the wall of a beverage dispensing cabinet, and the reference character 6 indicates the usual bottle opener under which the usual cap of a beverage bottle is positioned, the beverage bottle being forced downwardly to pry the cap from the beverage bottle.
Mounted within the cabinet is the registering device which is of conventional structure, the registering device being indicated by the reference character I.
The reference character '8 indicates a window, formed in the wall 5 of the cabinet, through which the numbers of the registering device may be viewed.
The registering device includes an operating arm 9 which is provided with the roller ll] mounted on the free end thereof. The roller It moves over the bar II, which has its forward end extended through the opening i2 formed in the front wall of the cabinet, the bar II being provided with the contact plate I3 which is preferably disc-like in formation.
It is to be understood that the contact plate [3 is arranged with such respect to the lower edge of the opener 6 that when a bottle cap is positioned under the opener, the bottle cap will contact with the plate l3, as the bottle is pressed downwardly to pry the cap from the bottle.
The bar H is secured to the bracket M, by means of the expansible coiled spring 55, the action of the spring it being to draw the bar H downwardly, (under normal conditions thereby allowing the operating arm 5 to move downwardly to its normal position after it has operated to record or register a bottle opened.
In the operation of the device, when a bottle is positioned for opening, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2 of the drawing, the bottle will when pressed downwardly to pry the cap from the bottle, move the bar H upwardly against the roller [8, swinging the operating arm upwardly to cause the same to operate and register a bottle being opened. As the bottle is removed, the spring 15 will draw the bar H downwardly and the operating arm will also swing downwardly assuming its normal inactive position.
With this device, an accurate check may be made of the beverage bottles opened, since it is impossible to insert a bottle within the opener, without actuating the arm 9 to operate the registering or recording device.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
A registering device for registering the number of crown caps removed from bottles, by a stationary cap remover, of the type having a throat portion including a bottle cap engaging lip and an opposite abutment surface for attachment to a wall, said wall having an opening disposed adjacent to said throat portion, a registering device supported on said wall adjacent to said opening, an operating arm extending from the regis tering device, a pivoted bar extending through said opening contacting said register operating arm, a coiled spring connected with said pivoted bar normally biasing the pivoted bar away from the operating arm, a contact plate secured to one end of the pivoted bar and disposed in said throat portion, diametrically opposite to said lip, one end of said plate normally resting against the supporting wall with its opposite end spaced therefrom, and said pivoted bar operating said operating arm under pressure directed thereto during removal of the bottle cap positioned under the opener and against said contact plate.
