This invention relates to improvements in carton containers and servers and more particularly to a container and server for use in connection with cream cartons, an object being to provide means for facilitating the handling of the carton and the serving of the contents thereof.

A further object is the provision of a carton holder and server of simple construction that is inexpensive to manufacture, durable in use, attractive in appearance and that will support and retain the carton in a positive manner, particularly during the pouring operation and that will readily release the carton when empty, or at any time such release is desired.

Numerous other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent as it is better understood from the following description, which, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing discloses a preferred embodiment thereof.

Referring now to the drawing:

Fig. 1 is a top plan view of a carton container and server according to the instant invention.

The container and server disclosed in the drawing constitutes the embodiment of the invention at present preferred and consists of a resilient plastic body I having a closed end or base 2 and a bead 3 about the base, the upper end being open. The body I, made of any suitable material, adjacent the base is desirably rectangular in cross section and of a general shape similar to but slightly larger than the conventional cream carton C and shorter than such carton, the carton being snugly received therein.

The sides 4, 5 of the container are of the same shape, height and width and from a common high point 6 their top edges are cut away and curved obliquely downwardly to their low points I from which points the sides 8, 9 have their upper edges further cut away and curved somewhat obliquely downwardly to a common lowermost point 10 to more fully expose the carton. This structure adds grace and symmetry to the design and facilitates cleaning and sanitation.

A longitudinal strip H is partially cut from the side 5, the free lower end of the stri being very slightly out-turned for engagement by the thumb and forefinger of the user, the strip being formed or provided adjacent its free end upon its interior face with a boss l2. When the carton 0 having the conventional base flange C is introduced into the container the flange C will ride against the strip boss l2 and force the lower end of the strip ll outwardly slightly, permitting the carton to seat upon the container base 2 with the boss now disposed above the carton flange preventing withdrawal, or accidental removal of the carton, such withdrawal being effected by manually moving the strip free end outwardly whereupon the carton is readily lifted from the container.

A handle 13 is provided for the container desirably at the meeting edges of the container sides 4, 5. Holding the container by its handle the contents of the carton may be poured from the carton by tilting the container forwardly when the carton cap is open.

What is claimed is:

In a container and server for cartons having flanged bases, a resilient body having one closed end, said body being of lesser height than the carton, said body adjacent its closed end being rectangular in cross section and shaped complementary to the carton, two of the sides of said container having their upper edges cut away obliquely downwardly from their remote vertical edges to their meeting common vertical edge to expose a material portion of the carton, a strip partially cut from one side of the container with its lower end free, said free end bent outwardly for manual engagement by the user, and a boss upon the lower end of said strip upon the inner face thereof for engagement by the carton base flange.
