Claims priority, application Germany March 14, 1949 The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in centrifuge connections.
One object of the invention comprises among others an improved and simplified construction for connecting feed and discharge conduits to centrifuges. This and further objects'ofthe invention may be seen from the following description.
In known centrifuge constructions, the conduits which feed. discharge and convey the liquids from one centrifugal stage into the next one, or which connect to control agents, are either arranged concentrically (i. e. within one another) or side by side. The latter arrangement is in many cases preferable and the conduits are preferably provided in a vstationary shaft extending above the centrifuge.
According to the invention an easily detachable` connection of feed and. discharge'lines and of control devices to said shaft is obtained by the provision of la manifold collar pressed or secured to the end of the shaft'portion extending beyond the centrifugal drum. This collar may be secured and pressed to the end of the shaft by means of a flange. Alternatively it may consist of two parts embracing the end of the shaft. The latter is preferably provided with substantially prallel, substantially flat surfaces and bores, preferably counter-sunk and connecting these surfaces with the` longitudinal shaft conduits. The parts of theemanifold collar are pressed against lthe parallel surfaces andthe duct to duct areas are sealed by means of packings and preferably resiliently compressed gaskets or the like, preferably arranged in grooves provided on either the inner collar or outer shaft surface. Clearances and sealing areapreferably such that the collar can be easily removed after the pressure bolts have been loosened'. or taken off.
An embodiment of the invention is shown by way of example in the accompanying drawings in which:

The shaft I extending beyond the centrifuge drum is provided with parallel channels or conduits through which the liquids are passed. The
^ liquid to be treated is supplied to the centrifuge drum through the channel 2 and the extracting agent or solvent is fed to Vthe drum through the channel 3. The channel 4 serves for discharging the liquid to be treated and ther channel 5 for conveying the extracting agent out ofthe drum. f
A manifold collar I0 is provided for connecting all external feed and discharge lines and the control devices withthe conduits lying within the shaft, the collar being mounted on or embracing the shaft I. A manometerIi serves to check the feed pressure of the stripping disc 9. The manometer 6 is `connected with the space .'I by way of conduit `8 of the `shaft and its base is movably secured in collar III. The manometer base is removably pressed withits packingv I2 against shaft I by means of differentially threaded tubular member II. `Feed and discharge lines may be connected to' or 'within'the collar ducts I3, I4, I5 and I 6 in a similar manner. The ends of the `feed and discharge lines may be thus pressed in the same manner against'the shaft by means of differentially threaded tubular members suitably fitted with packings.

'As villustrated in Fig. 3 the end of the shaft is provided with opposing y parallel surfacesV which have counterbores 2| and 22 respectivelyl'- The counterbore 2| extends to conduit 3 of 'the shaft and counterbore 22 to conduit 5. yAt the level of the upper connections I3, I5 of the collar, conduits 25 and 26 (Fig. 4) extend within the shaft from the parallel surfaces 23, 24 to the longitudinal conduits 2 and 4. The sections of collar I0 are forced together by means of bolts 21 and 28 pressing the various packings on gaskets against the shaft I. The collar may be removed from shaft I after the bolts 21, 28 have been loosened or removed and after the differentially threaded tubes, as exemplified by tube I I, have been backed off. At the level of the manometer-connection the shaft VI is preferably also provided with another packing surface 30 (Fig. 5) for the manometer base I2',l A bore 28 extends from the preferably flat surface 30 to the conduit 8 of the shaft I.
