This invention relates to a device for holding down a shirt collar-point, and more particularly, to a device for holding down and stretching a shirt collar-point.

An object of this invention is to provide a device Which holds a shirt collar-point flat and straight so that the collar-point is unwrinkled.

A further object of this invention is to provide a spring-pressed collar -point holder which stretches the collar-point in tension.

A further object of this invention is to provide a device which not only stresses a collar-point in tension but also holds the collar-point against the body of a shirt.

The above and other objects and features of the invention will in part be apparent and will in part be obvious from the following detailed description, and the drawing, in which:

Figure l is a fragmentary view in front elevation of a shirt having an attached collar, the collar being in the up position, the shirt being provided with a collar-point hold-down device constructed in accordance with an embodiment of this invention;

Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view in front elevation showing the shirt with the collar thereof folded in the down or wearing position.

Fig. 3 is a view in section taken along a line III-III in Fig. 1;

Fig. 4 is a view in front elevation showing a sliding member which forms a part of the holddown device;

Fig. 5 is a view in section taken along a line VV in Fig. 4; and

Fig. 6 is a view in front elevation showing a sliding member having a modified spring.

In the following detailed description, and the drawing, like reference characters indicate like parts.

In Figs. 1 and 2 is shown a shirt having a body ill and a collar [2. The collar may be of conventional form including inner and outer sections indicated at l3 and M, respectively, in Fig. l. The collar sections fold on a fold line l5. Points [6 (Fig. 2) of the collar are provided with button-holes l1 (Fig. l). The collar points are held down in stretched condition by means of buttons l8 (Fig. 2) received in the button-holes and a tension device l8 on which the buttons are carried.

The tension devices are shown in detail in Figs. 1, 3, 4, and 5. As shown, each button I8 is carried by a sliding member !9, being located at one end thereof. Member 19 may be formed of relatively stiff resilient plastic material of the type normally employed in collar stays or the like. The opposite end of member I9 is looped to form an eye 2|, in which one end of a compression spring 22 is received.

The sliding member is received in a slideway 23 (Fig. 3). The slideway 23 is formed, as shown in Fig. 3, by a strip of cloth 24 sewed along the opposite edges thereof to the body of the shirt. The slideway is formed between strip 24 and the body of the shirt, and is tubular in shape. The slideway terminates at a seam 26, by which the collar I2 is secured to the body of the shirt.

When the sliding member is in place in the tubular slideway 23, the free end of spring 22 bears on the seam to urge the sliding member 19 and button i8 downwardly, as shown in Fig. 1. When in use, button 18 extends through one of the buttonholes H, as shown in Fig. 2. The spring urges the sliding member in a direction to stretch the collar-point so that the collar-point is stretched in tension. Furthermore, the sliding member holds the collar-point down against the body of the shirt so that the collar point not only is stretched fiat but also is held against the body of the shirt in proper position.

Spring 22 is shown with only two arms or leaves, one of which is engaged in the eye 2i while the other bears against the seam at the end of the tubular slideway. The construction of the spring may be varied. In Fig. 6 is shown a sliding member 21 having a spring 28, having a plurality of arms or leaves, all of which lie in the same plane, so that both sliding member 21 and spring 28 may be received in a tubular slideway.

The construction of the spring and other portions of the shirt collar-point hold-down device described above and illustrated in the drawing is subject to structural modification without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. In a shirt having a body and an attached collar having buttonholes in the collar adjacent the points of the collar, a collar point hold-down and tensioning device which comprises a slideway secured to the body of the shirt at a location behind each point of the collar and extending toward the point, an elongated flat stiff sliding member in each slideway, a button attached to one end of each sliding member and engageable with the buttonhole in', ..the one of the collar points associated therewith, and a spring attached to each sliding member and engaging the slideway to stress the sliding member in compression, whereby each collar point is stressed in tension.

2. In a shirt having a body and an attached collar having buttonholes in the collar adjacent the points of the collar, a collar point hold-down and tensioning device which comprises a slideway attached to the body of the shirt behind each collar point, each slideway having a closed upper end adjacent the seam of the collar and a downwardly opening lower end, an elongated stiff flat sliding member removably received in each slideway, a button attached to one end of each sliding member and engaging the buttonhole in the collar point associated therewith, and a spring member attached to each sliding member and in 15 4 engagement with the closed end of the slideway associated therewith to stress the sliding member in compression, whereby the collar point attached thereto is stressed in tension and held against the 5 shirt body.
