Nov- 17, 1 53 F. DE HOFFMANN PENHOLDER Filed 001:. 21, 1949 INVENTCIR ATI'CIRN EYE Patented Nov. 17, 1953 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE PENHOLDER Felix de Hofimann, Buenos Aires, Argentina Application October 21, 1949, Serial No. 122,744
1 Claim.
This invention relates to improvements in penholders of the type including a stem or body portion provided with means for supporting the writing pen.
The main object of the invention is to provide said penholders with a receptacle for housing one or more additional writing pens, said receptacle being formed in the body portion of the penholder and having resilient means for holding said pens.
A further object of this invention is to provide a penholder of the aforesaid type, wherein said receptacle, also formed by a hollow cylinder, is capable of being linearly displaced at one of the ends of the penholder body so as to allow the removal of the writing pens contained therein.
The invention also contemplates other objects which will become apparent in the course of the following description.
In order that the invention may be more clearly understood and readily carried into practice, a preferred embodiment thereof has been illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a general view of one of the embodiments of this invention;
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary sectional view of the penholder shown in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view of the penholder,
showing the means for holding the additional writing pens.
The same reference characters are used to indicate like or corresponding parts or elements throughout the drawings.
As shown in the drawings, the writing instrument to which this invention refers is mainly constituted by a body portion I, provided at one end with means for fastening a writing pen 2.
In the embodiment of Figs. 1 to 3, the body I which is hollow at least at the rear portion thereof, has a cylindrical receptacle 4 disposed therein. The receptacle 4 has an enlargement 4' formed on one end thereof which abuts against an annular cap 7 threadedly secured to the rear portion of the penholder body I. The annular cap 1 is adapted to prevent the receptacle 4 from being completely withdrawn from the bore in the penholder body I. The bore of the receptacle 4 is capable of housing one or more additional writing pens 2. Said additional Writing pens 2 are suitably held in position by means of a resilient member formed by one or more flexible spring members 6, 6' under which said additional pens may be placed.
Said receptacle 4 has a screw-threaded portion 9 cooperating with one or more screwthreads formed on the inner edge of cap I and is also provided with an integral knob In for the actuation thereof.
Within the bore l I in the penholder body there is housed a spring or other resilient expansion means urging said receptacle 4 outwardly when the screw-threaded connection with the penholder body is released.
It is evident that in carrying this invention into practice, several changes, modifications and/or alterations will occur to those skilled in the art, without departing from the scope of the invention as clearly set forth in the appended claim.
I claim:
In a penholder, a body having a hollow portion open at one end thereof, a cap having internally threaded flanges defining an opening, said cap engaging said body at the open end thereof, a tubular receptacle disposed in the hollow portion of said body and adapted to house writing pens therein, a portion of the wall of the tubular receptacle being cut away thereby Y providing access to the interior thereof, an en- FELIX DE HOFFMANN.
