This invention relates to hair-setting devices, and more particularly to an improved appliance for obtaining a page boy coiffure.

A main object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved hair-setting appliance for obtaining a page boy effect, said appliance being simple in construction, being easy to. use, and involving only a few parts.

A further object of the invention is to provide an improved hair-setting apparatus constructed to provide an easy method of obtaining a page .boy style of coiffure, the appliance being inexpensive to manufacture, being readily adjustable in accordance with the contour and size of the users head, and enabling the user to obtain the desired hair set with a minimum amount of effort.

Further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description and claims, and from the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Figure 1 is a diagrammatic pictorial view showing an improved hair-setting appliance according to the present invention mounted in operative position on a persons head;

Figure 2 is a perspective View of the hair-setting appliance employed in Figure 1;

Figure 3 is a top plan view of the appliance of Figures 1 and 2;

Figure 4 is an enlarged cross-sectional detail view taken on the line 44 of Figure 3;

Figure 5 is an elevational view of the appliance in open position.

Referring to the drawings, the hair-setting appliance is designated generally at II, and comprises a relatively thick, generally U-shaped bar member I2 which may be rounded or oval in cross-section, as for example, circular in crosssection, as shown in Figure 4, and which is formed along its length on its outwardly facing surface with a groove I3 adapted to receive the points of scissors when the device is employed for hair trimming.

Designated at I4 and I5 are respective rectangular plate members which are respectively pivotally secured adjacent corner portions thereof to the ends of the bar member I2, as shown at I6 and II. The bar member I2 is formed of semi-rigid material, such as plastic or the like, the rigidity thereof being enhanced due to its substantial thickness. Designated at I8 is a relatively thin, auxiliary, U-shaped bar member pivotally secured at its ends to the corner portions of the plate members I 4 and I5, as shown at I9 and 20, the member I8 being substantially 2, similar in shape and size to the relatively thick u -shaped member I2, although not being necessarily identical in shape and size thereto. The relatively thin U-shaped member I8 may be of plastic rod material of any suitable, semi-rigid type.

Designated at 2| is a strap member secured at one end thereof to the plate member I4, as shown at 22. The strap member 2| is formed at its opposite end portion with a plurality of rectangular apertures 23 spaced Iongitudinally along the strap member, said apertures 23 being adapted to be selectively engaged with a rectangular lug 24 projecting from the plate member I5, as shown in Figure 5. The strap member 2| is formed of plastic material or other suitable, relatively flexible strap material.

In usin the device, the person desiring to obtain the page boy coiffure washes her hair and parts same in the desired manner. The apparatus is then placed on said persons head with the relatively thick, U-shaped member I2 disposed behind the persons head under the hair, as shown in dotted view in Figure 1, and with the strap member 2| placed over the top portion of the persons head and secured to plate member I5 by engaging a selected aperture 23 with the lug 24 on said plate member I5, in accordance with the size and shape of the persons head. The relatively thin, U-shaped member I8 is elevated and the hair is combed to extend over the relatively thick, U-shaped member I2, the hair being combed as smoothly as possible over member I2. The relatively thin, U-shaped member I8 is then lowered over the hair so that it tends to press the hair inwardly over the relatively thick, U-shaped member I2 at the lower rear portion of the persons head, causing the lower marginal portion of the hair to curl over the relatively thick, U-shaped member I2. The marginal portion of the hair over the member I2 defines a roll, designated at 26. A hair net may then be fastened on the persons head, extending from the top of the persons head and under and around the roll 26, holding the roll 26 in curled relationship around the thick, U-shaped member I2. When the hair is dry, the hair net and the apparatus may be removed, leaving the hair shaped and formed to the desired page boy coiffure.

It will be understood that when it is desired to trim the marginal portion of the hair, the U-shaped member I2 may be employed as a guide, the points of the scissors being inserted in the groove l3 and moved along the hair to trim the same, whereby means is provided for trimming the hair to provide a smooth and neat hair margin, said margin extending around the back of the head.

While a specific embodiment of an improved hair-setting appliance has been disclosed in the foregoing description, it will be understood that various modifications within the spirit of the invention may occur to those skilled in the art. Therefore, it is intended that no limitations be placed on the invention except as defined by the scope of the appended claims.

What is claimed is:

1. A hair-setting appliance comprising a relatively thick, generally U-shaped bar member, said bar member being rounded in cross-section and being adapted to be engaged back of the users head, a strap member secured to one end of said bar member and arranged to lockingly engage the other end of said bar-member, said strap member being adapted to be engaged over the top of the users head, and an auxiliary, relatively thin U-shaped member pivotally connected at its ends to the ends of the thick U- shaped member and adapted to engage over the users hair adjacent the back of the users head opposite the thick U-shaped member said U- shaped member being formed with an outwardly facing groove extending the major portion of the length of the U-shaped member for guiding a, scissors along the users hair.

2. A hair-setting appliance comprising a relatively thick, generally U-shaped bar member of cured at one end thereof to one of said plate members, a projection on the other plate member, said strap member being formed with longitudinally spaced openings adjacent its other end adapted to be selectively engaged with said projection, said strap member being adapted to be engaged over the top of the users head, and an auxiliary, relatively thin U-shaped member pivotally connected at its ends to the plate members and adapted to engage over the users hair adjacent the back of the user's head opposite the thick U-shaped member said thick U-shaped member being formed with an outwardly facing groove extending for the major portion of the length of the U-shaped member, for guiding a scissors in trimming the hair at the back of the user's head.
