L. H. KNIBB a DISPLAY CASE FOR WRIST vwmcn BANDS Aug. 25, 1953 Filed March 24, 1949 V Illll J ll!!! jmsw? 1m; 1a was 79910 W Patented Aug. 25, 1953 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE DISPLAY CASE FOR WRIST-WATCHBANDS Leroy H. Knibb, Chicago, 111.
Application March 24, 1949, Serial No. 83,245
1 Claim.
The invention relates to display cases for wristwatch bands.
In the sale of wrist-watch bands a desideratum i to provide a transparent case which attractively displays the watch bands and also serves as a protective container for the bands.
One object of the invention is to provide a case for a wrist-watch band which is formed of transparent material, such as plastic, in which the band is displayed so the design thereon will be visible while the band remains enclosed in the case.
Another object of the invention is to provide a case for this purpose in which the wrist-watch bands may be attractively displayed with a card representing a watch.
Another object of the invention is to provide a case for a wrist-watch band in which the band may be displayed so the designs on the inner and outer faces of the band will be visible.
Other objects of the invention will appear from the detailed description.
The invention consists in the several novel features hereinafter set forth and more particularly defined by claims at the conclusion hereof.
In the drawings:
Fig. l is a perspective of a case embodying the invention, the cover being shown in dotted lines, with wrist-watch band and card illustrating a watch face between the ends of the band;
Fig. 2 is a plan of the lower section of the case;
Fig. 3 is a section taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the cover.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the card which may be displayed on the holder.
The invention is exemplified in a case which comprises a holder for the band and a cover both of which are formed of transparent material, such as suitable transparent plastic. The holder comprises an annular base wall It] and an integral upstanding cylindrical wall II which is of a suitable circumferential length to retain an elastic watch band a which is formed of a coil of wire and usually provided with clips I? for detachable connection to loops on a watch. Vertical ribs l1 and I8 of angular cross-section are integrally formed on the outer face of wall H and function as hooks with which the clips I) on the watch band a are adapted to engage. Ribs l1 and I 8 are spaced apart sufficiently to subject the band to some tension when extended around the wall II.
A panel or card 2|! on which a watch face is displayed for simulating the appearance of a watch extends between ribs I1 and I8 and i pro- 2 vided with end-flanges 22 which fit in the grooves in said ribs. Flanges 22 are adapted to be engaged by the clips to hold the card in place around the wall H and between ribs 11 and I8.
The transparent cover is provided for enclosing the watch band while it is on display and during shipment, and comprises a top wall l5 extending outwardly from the periphery of wall H and an integral annular depending Wall [4. The lower rim of the wall M of the cover is seated in a groove [6 of angular cross-section with a frictional fit to retain the cover on the holder. The wall ll of the holder section and the wall M of the cover are spaced apart to provide the annular space in which the wrist-watch band is confined. The top wall I5 of the cover terminates at the outer periphery of wall I I so that the inner face of the wrist-watch band will be Visible through the transparent wall II while the cover is on the holder.
When the wrist band is enclosed in the case with the cover, the band will be protected and will also be visible to the prospective purchaser. The band may be readily secured circumferentially around the wall II by stretching it and hooking the clips b onto the ribs l1, l8 so that the band will be attractively displayed with an illustration of a watch face to simulate the appearance of the band with a watch. The tension on the stretched wrist band formed of a flat coil of wire will hold clips b in engagement with flanges 22 on card 29 so that both the band and the card will be held in upright position and attractively displayed. When the card is not used the hooks on clips I) will interfit with angular ribs l1 and I8 and secure the band around wall I I.
The invention exemplified a case for an elastic wrist-watch band which attractively displays the band so that the designs on both the inner and outer faces thereof will be visible and which when the cover is assembled therewith completely encloses and protects the wrist-watch band for shipment or storage. The cases may be stacked for display in stores.
The invention is not to be understood as restricted to the details described since these may be modified within the scope of the appended claim without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A display case for an elastic wrist-watch band provided with end clips having hooks, comprising: a transparent holder including an annular upstanding wall and an integral base projecting outwardly from the lower end of said Wall, a pair of fixed vertical elements on said wall, removably engaged by the hooks on the clips on the band, spaced circumferentially around said wall for holding the band stretched with the clips against said elements, a card extending between said elements and having end flanges engaged by the hooks on the clips, whereby the card will be secured on the outer face of the upstanding wall on the holder, with the ends of the card held by the clips, and a transparent cover including annular top and side walls.
