This invention relates to wrist watch straps and has particular reference to a wrist watch strap which is constructed and arranged to underlie the back of the watch so as to prevent contact of the Watch with the wrist of the wearer.

Another object of the invention is to provide a wrist watch strap of said character which may be readily connected with the watch or disengaged therefrom and which securely holds the watch in position on the strap.

Still another object of the invention is to provide a wrist watch strap composed of strap sections which are arranged to engage through the loops at the ends of the watch and are connected together by a connecting member for releasably fastening the watch to the strap and which strap sections have an enlarged supplemental strap secured thereto so as to underlie the watch to thereby prevent contact of the watch with the wrist of the wearer.

With the foregoing and other objects in View, reference is now made to the following specification and accompanying drawings in which the preferred embodiments of the invention are illustrated.

Fig. 1 is a plan View of a wrist watch strap constructed in accordance with the invention and illustrating the same affixed to a watch, with a portion of the strap broken away.

Fig. 2 is a fragmentary sectional view taken approximately on line 22 of Fig. 1.

Fig. 3 is a plan view'of a modified form of wrist watch strap constructed in accordance with the invention and illustrating the same attached to a watch, with a portion of the strap broken away.

Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view taken approximately on line 4-4 of Fig. 3.

Referring to the drawings by characters of reference, and more particularly to the form of the invention shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, the wrist watch strap consists of opposite strap sections I and II, the section It having a buckle l2 while the section H has openings l3 for engagement with the buckle for securing the strap on the wrist of the wearer. The sections Ii! and II engage through loops Id at the opposite ends of the watch A with the adjacent end portions of the sections extending beneath the lower face of the watch and releasably connected together by a connecting element I5. For this purpose, the connecting element It is formed with enlarged opposite end portions It which are connected therewith by restricted or narrow portions IT. The confronting inner ends of the sections I0 and II are formed with transversely extending slits I8 and longitudinally extending slits I!) which join the transversely extending slits I3 medially thereof. The connecting element I5 is adapted to engage against the back of the watch with the restricted or narrow portions I"! thereof projecting through the transversely extending slits I8 and with the enlarged ends I5 overlying the under side of the inner ends of the sections to thereby releasably connect the sections together beneath the watch.

In order to prevent direct contact of the watch with the wrist of the wearer, an enlarged supplemental strap is secured to the under side of the strap sections I0 and II in any desired manner such as by stitching 2|. The supplemental strap is of generally oval formation and underlies the watch and the confronting ends of the strap sections, the same being of a width to cover the entire lower surface of the watch. Constructed in this manner the wrist watch strap is adapted to be attached to a watch for securing the same in position on the wrist of the wearer. The strap may be applied to the watch by expanding the slits I8 and I 9 in the confronting ends of the strap sections I0 and II and inserting the enlarged end portions I6 of the connecting element I5 therethrough so as to position the restricted portions I! of the connecting element in protruding relation through the slits I8. The enlarged end portions I6 of the connecting element I5 being slightly wider than the length of the slits I8 prevents unintentional disengagement of the connecting element and sections while the same permits of the disengagement thereof when desired for removing the watch from the wrist watch strap.

As illustrated the sections I0 and II may be of single ply thickness, but as illustrated in the form of the invention shown in Figs. 3 and 4 of the drawings, the wrist watch strap may be of two ply thickness consisting of opposite strap sections and 26 composed of upper and lower plies 2'! and 28, the strap section 25 having a buckle 29 while the strap section 26 has openings 30 for engagement with the buckle for securing the strap on the wrist of the wearer. The confronting inner ends of the upper ply 21 extend down through loops 3| at the opposite ends of the wrist watch B with the adjacent end portions of the ply being located beneath the lower face of the watch and releasably connected together in overlapping relation by means of an interengageable slit 32 and tongue 33 respectively provided on the overlapped ends 34 and 35 of said upper ply 21.

The lower ply 28 of the sections is connected to the upper ply thereof by stitching 36 at the side edges thereof which extends from the ends thereof inwardly to cross stitching 3'! with the intermediate portion 38 of the lower ply being free and unconnected with the upper ply. The said intermediate portion 38 is of generally oval formation and underlies the adjacent ends of the top ply and the under side of the watch 13.

What is claimed is:

1. A strap for wrist Watches of the type having bails at the ends thereof forming slots, said strap consisting of upper and lower plies, said upper ply including separate sections disposed in end to end relation and adapted to engage through said slots respectively with the inner end portions of said sections extending under the watch and the free inner ends of said sections arranged in overlapping relation, said lower ply having its outer end portions secured to the outer end portions of said sections respectively outwardly of the engagement of said sections through said slots and said lower ply freely underlying said inner end portions of said sections and said overlapped ends, said sections having interengageable means at the outer ends thereof for connecting the sections together to form a band adapted to encircle the wrist, and said overlapped ends having tongue and slot connection for securing said overlapped ends in coupled relation and for fastening the watch to the strap when said imier end portions of the sections are in engagement with the watch through said slots.

A strap for wrist watches of the type having bails at the ends thereof forming slots, said strap including separate sections disposed in end to end relation and adapted to engage through said slots respectively with the inner end portions of said sections extending under the watch, a ply underlying said sections and secured at its ends to said sections respectively outwardly of the engagement of said sections through said slots and said ply freely underlying said inner end portions of said sections under the watch, said sections having interengageable means at their outer ends for connecting the sections together to form a band adapted to encircle the wrist, and means securing said inner end portions of the sections together under the watch for fastening the watch to the strap when said inner end portions are in engagement with the watch through said slots.
