Description

March 1953 L. G. TROTTER ANUS SPRAYING APPARATUS Filed Oct. 4, 1948 Leslie 6. Troffe/ ?atented Mar. 24, 1953 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE ANU S SPRAYING APPARATUS Leslie G. Trotter, San Francisco, Calif.
Application October 4, 1948, Serial No. 52,644
1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to new and useful improvements and structural refinements in devices used in the interest of personal hygiene, more particularly, in the preservation of cleanliness of skin on certain portions of the human body and the principal object of the invention is to provide an apparatus of the character herein described, such as may be conveniently and effectively employed for cleansing the anus and the surrounding skin region after an intestinal evacuation, so that remnants of the evacuated material are prevented from adhering to underclothing and creating highly unpleasant and unsanitary condi tions.
This object is achieved by the provision of an apparatus which is positionable in a toilet bowl and includes means for spraying water upwardly against the region of the anus of the occupant of the toilet bowl seat.
An important feature of the invention involves the provision of cushioning and sealing means on the shell or housing of the apparatus, which means permits the shell to conformably engage the body of the occupant and assure that the cleansing liquid, after performing its function, is discharged into the toilet bowl rather than being deflected or spilled in an undesirable direction.
Another feature of the invention resides in the provision of a control valve in the apparatus whereby the spraying of the cleansing liquid may be easily and conveniently effected or discontinued.
Some of the advantages of the invention lie in its simplicity of construction, in its adaptability for use in association with toilet bowls of various sizes and types, and in its adaptability to economical manufacture.
With the above more important objects and features in view and such other objects and features as may become apparent as this specification proceeds, the invention consists essentially of the construction and arrangement of parts as shown in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of a toilet bowl and seat showing the invention in association therewith;
Figure 2 is a cross sectional view, taken substantially in the plane of the line 2-2 in Figure 1, and
Figure 3 is a front elevational view of the invention per se.
Like characters of reference are employed to designate like parts in the specification and throughout the several views.
Referring now to the accompanying drawings 2 in detail, the invention consists of an anus spraying apparatus designated generally by the reference character Hi, the same being intended for use with a conventional toilet bowl I2 including the usual seat [4.
The apparatus lfl embodies in its construction a substantially frusto-conical shell Iii having open upper and lower ends, this shell being adapted for positioning in the bowl 12 by being secured as at l8 to the lower end portion of an upwardly and outwardly extending support bracket or strap 20, an intermediate portion of this bracket being substantially horizontal as at 22 (see Figure 2) so that it may be supportably engaged by the seat l4 and thus assist in stabilizing the shell I6 in the bowl I2, as will be clearly apparent. Moreover, it is to be noted that the lower edge 24 of the shell [6 rests upon the usual bottom partition 26 of the toilet bowl, substantially as shown.
The upper edge of the shell i6 is, in turn, equipped with what may be referred to as an annular cushioning and sealing member 28, this being preferably formed from resilient material such as rubber, or the like, so that it may engage and conform to the contour of the body of a person occupying the seat l4.
What may be referred to as a spraying ring 36 is supported by the inner wall of the shell l6 intermediately the height of the shell, the intermediate portion of the latter being outwardly bulged as at 32 so as to securely retain the ring 30 in position, as will be clearly apparent.
It is to be noted that the ring 30 is provided with upwardly directed discharge openings or orifices 34, so that water admitted into the ring 30 under pressure will be sprayed upwardly toward the region of the anus as indicated at 36, thus effectively cleaning the same. After the Water thus discharged has performed its function, it will simply gravitate downwardly through the shell [6 into the bowl, the cushioning and sealing member 28 preventing spilling of the water in undesirable directions, as will be clearly apparent.
The water is delivered to the spraying ring 30 by means of a suitable tube, preferably a rubber hose 38, this being connected at one end to a suitable adapter which projects outwardly from the ring 30 through the shell 16, while the remaining end of the hose 38 may be connected in any convenient manner to the water main supplying the reservoir (not shown) of the toilet bowl l2, or the like.
A valve designated generally by the reference character 42 is associated with the hose 38, this valve preferably assuming the form of a pair of handles 44 which are pivotally connected together as at 46 and terminate at one end thereof in a pair of coacting jaws 48, the latter. in turn, being provided with a pair of substantially spherical or cylindrical pressure exerting members 50.
The handles 44 are mounted by means of their common pivot 48 upon a bracket 52 which, in turn, is secured to an upper end portion of the aforementioned bracket 20, and a suitable spring 54 is provided on the pivot 46 and is operatively connected to the handles 44, whereby the pressure exerting members 50 are normally urged into a clamping or squeezing engagement with an intermediate portion of the hose 38. In this manner, the flow of water through the hose 38 is normally prevented, but by simply pressing the handles 44 together, the hose 38 is permitted to resume its normal, tubular configuration and a passage of water through the hose into the spraying ring 34 is effected, as will be clearly apparent.
Needless to say, as soon as the handles 44 are released, the spring 54 automatically urges the members 50 into engagement with the tube 38, thus rendering the apparatus inoperative.
Finally, it may be added that the apparatus may be permitted to remain in the toilet bowl l2 and used in conjunction therewith, or alternatively, the apparatus may be employed in the nature of an attachment which may be applied to the toilet bowl for purposes of spraying the anus after each intestinal evacuation.
It is believed that the advantages and use of the invention will be clearly apparent from the foregoing disclosure and accordingly, further descriptien thereof at this point is deemed unnecessa-ry.
While in the foregoing there has been shown 4 and described the preferred embodiment of this invention it is to be understood that minor changes in the details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
An anus spraying apparatus comprising an angulated strap including a substantially horizontal intermediate portion adapted for supportable engagement with the seat of a toilet bowl and also including a slanting lower portion adapted to extend into the stated bowl, an open-ended vertical shell secured to the lower portion of said strap and adapted to be supportably engaged by the bottom of the bowl, an annular spraying member mounted in the shell and having upwardly directed spraying orifices, and a liquid supply pipe connected to said spraying member.
