1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to carriers and the like for use by clerks and others for carrying a plurality of ice cream cones, coffee cups and similar articles, without the necessity of crowding and grasping them in the hand where they are disposed at various angles so that the ice cream drips on the hands and clothing of the person and/or the spillage of coffee or other liquid or food being carried.
One of the prime objects of the invention is to design a simple, practical and convenient foldable carrier which can be quickly and easily unfolded to receive a number of ice cream cones, cups or other receptacles for carrying them from a store or other dispensing station, to a vehicle or spot for delivery to the individuals for whom they are intended.
Another object is to provide a verysimple, compact structure which can be neatly folded for easy packing, shipping and/or storage, and provide means for holding it in its folded position.
A further object is to provide a cone and/or cup carrier of neat and pleasing appearance, which can be readily manufactured and assembled, which is formed with relatively large bearing surfaces, to the end that it will stand in upright position on a counter or other support without fear of tipping etc.
Still a further object is to provide a carrier device which can be easily carried, and in which the hinged cone accommodating members can be readily swung to either folded or unfolded position.
With the above and other objects in view, the present invention consists in the combination and. arrangement of parts, hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim, it being understood that changes may be made in the form, size, proportion, and minor details of construction, without departing from the spirit, or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the drawings:
Fig. l is a perspective view of my carrier with the adjustable carrying panels swung to open position.
Fig. 2 is an edge-elevational view thereof, the broken lines showing the panels being swung down.
Fig. 3 is a side elevational view of the structure with the panels in folded position.
Referring now more specifically to the drawing in which I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the carrier can be made up of wood, metal, plastic or any other desired material and comprises a vertically disposed, flat main frame member 8, the lower end of which forms a support or foot 9, the side edges of said frame being curved as at H) for artistic purposes.
The opposite sides of the main frame 8 are shouldered as at H at a point intermediate its height so that the section [2 above said shoulders is of reduced thickness, and a transversely slotted opening I3 is provided adjacent the upper end thereof to form a handhold to facilitate carrying of the structure.
Wing panels [4 are hingedly secured to the opposite faces of the main frame at the shoulders I I by means of hinges l5, each panel being formed with a plurality of spaced openings l6 therein and of a size to accommodate a conventional ice cream cone 0 or cups and receptacles (not shown), one part I! of a separable snap button B being secured to one of the panels l4, while the other part I8 of said button is secured to the opposite panel, so that when the panels are swung to folded position, the individual sections of the snap fastener B extend through the opening 13 and can be readily snapped to locked position, and they can, of course, be readily separated in the usual manner.
Laterally projecting legs l9 are secured to the lower section of the main frame 8 as shown, and these legs are curved as at 20 to harmonize with the leg section I9 of the main frame, the upper end 2| of these legs I0 forming a support for the panels when they are swung to open position as clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings.
From the foregoing description, it will be obvious that I have perfected a very simple, practical and relatively inexpensive, foldable cone and cup carrier, which can be inexpensively manufactured, and by means of which a plurality of ice cream cones and/or cups can be carried without drippage of ice cream, crushing of the cones, spillage of liquid and the soiling of the hands or clothing of the person carrying or dispensing the edible or beverage.
What I claim is:
A carrier structure of the class described, comprising a main frame shouldered on its opposite sides at a point intermediate its length to form a relatively thin upper section formed with a slotted handhold opening adjacent the upper end thereof, panel members hingedly connected to the main frame at the shoulder point and formed with a plurality of cone-accommodating openings therein, said panels being of the same dimensional shape as the upper thin section of the main frame 3 4 to lie in close facial contact therewith when REFERENCES CITED the panels are in folded position, legs secured to The following references are of record in the the main frame at a point intermediate its width fil f this t t; with the upper ends of the legs forming a support for the panels when the panels are in open 5 UNITED STATES PATENTS position, said panels being of a thickness to lie Number Name Date flush with said main frame when in folded posi- 1,338,192 Roth Apr. 2'7, 1920 n, and cooperating fastening means on said 2,435,833 Hazelet Feb. 10, 1943 panels positioned to be accommodated in said F R r.
