GLOVE.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 262,434, dated August 8, 1882,
Application filed April 21, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CARL FRIEDRICH AU- GUST KOEHLER, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at the city of Toronto, in the county of York, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in the Manner of Manufacturing Gloves and Gauntlets, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the invention is to so form the glove or gauntletthatitwill fit the wristclosely and at the same time be full at the knuckles to enable the hand to be closed easily, and also full at the mouth of the glove in order to fit over the sleeve or cuff.
Figure 1 exhibits my improved gauntlet as it will appear when on the hand. Fig. 2 is a view of my improved glove as it will appear on the hand. Fig. 3 is a diagram showing the manner of cutting the glove to effect the desired purpose of my invention.
In gauntlets as now made the diameter at the wrist is the same as the diameter at the knuckles,or,ifanything, larger. Consequently the glove will not fit the wrist comfortably,
and when the hand is closed the glove bulges at the knuckles, making it very unsightly and unpleasant to wear.
In order to form a glove so that it will fit the wrist closely and at the same time expand at its mouth sufficiently to fit over the cuff or sleeve of the wearer, I cut longitudinal slits A through the material forming the glove, and by closing and sewing the edges of the slits together contract the glove around the wrist, leaving sutficient material around the knuckles to enable the hand to be closed freely, and at the same time causing the mouth of the glove to bulge out in order to fit over the cuff or sleeve of the wearer.
What I claim as my invention is-- In a glove or gauntlet, the combination of longitudinal slits A, cut through the glove at or near the wrist, the edges of the slits being sewed together, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
