This invention pertains to a pocket autographic register having means for retaining in the locked register the original sale ticket for each transaction, and is an improvement of the constructions shown and described in my applications Ser. No. 132,819 filed December 14, 1949 and Ser. No. 204,908, filed January 8, 1951.
An object of the invention is generally to improve the construction of pocket autographic registers of the type shown in the above identified applications, both as to smoothness of operation, to conserve space and to increase the utility of such registers.
Other objects will be found throughout the specification.

Figure 5 is a perspective view of the winding spool.
Referring to the drawings, A indicates the register as a whole. The present register occupies a smaller space than those shown in my prior applications, and is for this reason particularly adapted for pocket use.
This register is provided with a top I, hinged at 2 to the base 3 and held in closed position by the spring catch 4 on the top of the loop 5 of which projects through an aperture 6 in the base. A seal may engage this loop. The base has sides I and 8, and ends 9 and Ill.
The paper II comprises preferably a plurality of webs forming a zig-zag pack I2 which latter is located beneath the table 26. One end of the table is fastened to the arms I3 that engage and swing upon the pivot of hinge 2, and the opposite end of the table has a downwardly curved tongue I4, the curved portion of which rests upon the feed roller I5, adjacent one end of which is a collar I6 having a series of spaced perforating feed pins IT. The roller has ends I8 mounted to rotate in bearing brackets I9 fixed by welding or rivets to the sides 1 and 8 of the base. The opposite end of the feed roller has a collar 20, and the other end of the roller has a knurled feed wheel 2| which projects through a slot 22 in the top I. The roller I5 is driven by the feed wheel 2| to cause the feeding of the paper from the pack I2 over the table. The original passes under 2 a roller 22', which is opposite to and closely spaced from the lower end 23 of the table tongue I4. The carbon sheets are fed downwardly through the slot 24 in the base 3.
The shaft I8 through wheel 2i drives pinion gear 21. This gear and pulley 28 are fixedly mounted on shaft 29. Pulley 23 through the expansible coiled spring 30 drives pulley 3I fixed to half-shaft 32 which drives the other half shaft 33. Shaft 32 has an abutment 35 and shaft 33 has an abutment 34 and an end 36 which projects outwardly of the casing base as seen in Figure 2. When the two half shafts are in position as shown in Figure 2 a slot 31 is provided for insertion of the end of the original record sheet. Half shaft 33 may be pulled out by grasping its end 36 to release the end of the record sheet after removing top I, say at the end of the day.
As will be seen by reference to Figure 4, there is affixed to the under side of the top, by rivets or by brazing, a spring finger 38 having a bifurcated lower portion 39, the furcations of which are located on opposite sides of the pins I2. These yieldingly press webs of paper upon the pins so as to cause the pins to successively penetrate the paper, and to feed the paper without slippage of the webs relative to each other.
The mounting of the combined drive and paper feed roller adjacent to the record sheet roller prevents slippage between these rollers, and allows for increased space 43 for the paper pack, so as to decrease the over all length of the register. There is a partition 4| for holding the paper pack in proper position.
The shafts I8, 29 and 32, 33 are mounted in suitable bearings in side walls I and 8.
A pawl 42 preferably made of thin sheet metal is fixed by rivets or brazing to the upper surface of the base 3 as seen in Figures 3 and 4. The free end 43 of the pawl engages pins I2 to prevent retrograde movement of drive shaft I8.
The pawl can be released by operating push pin 44. When the pin is pushed inwardly of the case, its opposite end forces the free end of the pawl 42 out of the path of the stop so that the roller I2 may be rotated backwardly in order to adjust the movements of the parts. When the pin is manually released the pawl end moves horizontally back to the position where it will prevent backward movement of shaft I8. The end of the pawl will engage the stop 45 for each complete rotation of the shaft I8 and the pin must be pressed inwardly for each operation of the feed drum, the complete rotation of which is sufficient to cause the webs to present a new printed sale slip on the table top for writing a transaction thereon.
Variations and modifications may be made within the scope of this invention as defined by the claims herein, and portions of the improvements may be used without using other portions.
I claim:
1. A tamper-proof pocket register comprising a casing having sides and a pivoted top, a table in said casing, said casing having a writing opening in the same located above said table, a plurality of work strips in said casing, each strip comprising an original sheet and a duplicate sheet with carbon therebetween, means for feeding said strips over said platen, an opening in said casing through which one of said sheets may pass to the exterior of said casing, storage means in said casing for storing the other of said sheets, said storage means being operatively connected with said feeding means, said storage means comprising a shaft consisting of a plurality of parts, and means for removing one of said shaft parts through a side of said casing.
2. Apparatus as defined in claim 1 wherein said shaft parts when assembled provide a slot for the reception of a portion of said other sheet.
3. Apparatus as defined in claim 2 wherein said shaft parts have cooperating abutments and a portion of one shaft part normally extends outwardly of said casing through on opening therein.
