UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
FRIEDRICH HUNGER, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO SOLOMON SGHMUOK, OF SAME PLACE.
FOOT-REST FOR ROCKING-CHAIRS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 261,718, dated July 25, 1882. V Application filed April 29, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern Be it known that I, FRIEDRICH HUNGER, of Cleveland, in the county of (Juyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Foot-Rests; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to foot-rests for rocking-chairs; and it consists in the combination of parts hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, Figure l is an end elevation of my foot-rest, showing it attached to a chair. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of my footrest.
A and B are two rockers, which are preferably provided with arms a and 1) extending upward near their middle portions.
Pivotally secured between the rockers, preferably between the upper ends of the arms a and b, is a foot-board, (J, which, if desired,
may be upholstered.
Secured to and curved upward from the middle portion of one side of the foot-board C is an arm, D, preferably made in the form of a tube, to which is adj ustably secured a rod, E, said rod in turn being provided with a means for attachment to the seat of a rocking-chair. The arm D and rod E act as a connection between the chair and foot-rest, and allow of the same being adjusted nearer together or farther apart, as desired, and also act to communicate to the foot-rest an oscillating motion when the chair is rocked.
The foot-board 0 being pivoted, as above described, between the-rockers A. and B, allows of the free movement of the rockers.
WhatI claim is- The combination, with the rockers AB and pivoted foot-board U, of the adjustable armD E, the armD being secured to the foot-board and the arm being pivotally secured to a rocking-chair, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRIEDRICH HUNGER.
