Description

UNITED STATES:
PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS ATKINSON, OE GALENA, KANSAS, ASSIGNOE To HIMSELE AND o.
W. SEARS, OE SAME PLAcE.
PROVISION-SAFE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 261,417, dated July 18, 18282.
' Application ined Mns/27,1882. (Model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, THOMAS ATKINSON, of Galena, in the county of Cherokeeand State ot' Kansas, have invented a new and Improved Provision-Safe, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention consists in a casing of wirecloth or perforated material made in two sections hinged to eachother and mounted loosely on a vertical shaft and surrounding a series ot' shelves and brackets attached to a sleeve loosely mounted on this verticalA shaft independentl y ot' the exterior casing, whereby this casing can be removed from the shaft very easily in case the provision-safe is to be tra-nsported or moved.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similarletters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a plan View ot' myimproved -provision-safe. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional elevation of the same on'the line x, Fig. 2.V Fig. et is a plan view of the under side ofthe same.
A. vertical shaft, A, is securely mounted in a base, B, and is with a head, G, or some other suitable pivot or bearing-block.
A sleeve, D, is loosely mounted on this shaft between the head C and the base B, on which sleeve a series of shelves, E, or bracket-arms are secured for supporting and carrying articles, dishes, Sto.
A casing, G, made wholly or partly of wirecloth or perforated plates, and having a square, circular, or polygonal cross-section, is formed of two sections, G G2, which are hinged to cach other at the middle of the upper endhas shown. This top or upper end of the casing is provided in its under side with a recess, I, for receiving the upper end of the head or pivotvU. An aperture, J, is formed in the bottom of the casing, and the edges ot' the aperture fIt into an annular rabbet in the base B, so that the casing G can be rotated around the vertical shaft A. The bottoms of the sections G' G2 are provided with studs a and hooks b for holding the sections together when they are on the shaft.
One of the sections is proprovided at its upper end vided with 011e or two swinging or sliding doors, L. The meeting edges of the sections G G2 are preferably rabbeted, as shown.
The sleeve D, to which the shelves or bracketarms are attached, is mounted loosely on the '55 shaft A and can rotate on the same, andthe casing can rotate on the shaft-that is, on the base B and the head C-independently of the sleeve D. The dishes, 85o., can be passed into the casing it' the doors L are opened.
If the provision-safe is to be transported, the hooks b aredisengaged and the section G is swung upward and y1s thenl removed from the base and shaft, and it the head C is removed the sleeve D can be removed from the shaft A, thus greatly facilitating the moving and transporting of the safe..
Having thus fully described my invention,
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent l 7o 1. In a provision-safe, the combinatiomwith a vertical shaft, of a casing mounted on this shaft andY formed of two sections hinged to each other at the upper ends, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purposes set forth.,
In a provision-safe, the combination, with a vertical shaft, of a sleeve mounted loosely on the same and carrying shelves, and of a casv ing mounted on the shaft independently of 8o this sleeve and covering this sleeve and its shelves, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
- 3. In a provision-safe, the combination, with the vertical shaft A, of the head C, the sleeve D, the brackets 'and shelves E, and the casing G, formed of two hinged sections, G and G2, substantially as herein shown and described,` and for the purpose set forth.
4. In a provision-safe, the combination, with 9o the vertical shaft, A, of the sleeve D, the brack ets and shelves E,the hinged sections G G2, the doors L, the studs a, and the hooks b, substan'tially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
THOMAS ATKINSON.
