Description

Oct. 14, 1952 M. ROSEN BAU M SHOWER CURTAIN Filed May 2l, 1951 IN VENTOR Jill/rice Rasen(my/1.1Li
BY @ww/ZM@ ATTORNEYJ Patented Oct. 14, 1952 UNITED .STATESAA PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
This invention relates to a shower curtain composed of fabric, plastic, semi-plastic or other similar material.
One of the principal objects of the invention is the provision of a shower curtain provided with a receptacle.
Another object of the invention is a shower curtain having a plurality of sections and means for mounting the receptacle at the juncture of the sections.
A further object of the invention is to provide a exible shower curtain composed of a plurality of panels of material, said panels being joined by a seam, and means for mounting a flexible soap container in the seam.
Other objects will appear hereinafter throughout the specication.
The single figure is a front elevational view of the shower curtain made in. accordance with the present invention.
The modern bathroom includes, as part of its furnishings, a shower bath or a combination tub and shower bath, There is usually a recep-l tacle for soap or other articles in the wall of the shower or combined tub and shower. However, this receptacle, following the use of the shower, becomes lled or partially iilled with Water and any soap or other articles which have been placed in the receptacle are injured by the water in the receptacle.
The device of the present invention includes a flexible shower bath curtain preferably comprising a plurality of panels that are provided with a seam forming the attaching means of the side edges of the panels. The receptacle is preferably constructed of the same or similar material as the material of the curtain and it is held in proper position by the seam stitching.
Referring to the drawing, the letter A indicates the curtain as a whole. The curtain is composed of a plurality of sections joined by a seam I.
The numeral 2 indicates a pocket or receptacle for soap and other articles. 'I'his pocket is preferablyin the shape of a truncated cone and may be composed of a single piece of material, similar to or the same as the material composing the curtain proper. The free side edges of the pocket are held by the stitching of the seam i in the position shown. The pocket is provided with an open top 3 and an open lower end 4. The pocket is in the form of a loop of material, forming a truncated cone, with the free sides of the loop stitched by the stitching which connects the side edges of a pair of adjacent panels and the seam forming the terminals of the pocket openings. The top opening extends diagonally to the seam.
It will be understood that the pocket is on the side of the curtain which faces inwardly toward the shower so that an article, such as a bar of soap, may be deposited in the pocket by means of the opening 3. The opening 4 is of such size that the soap will not pass completely out of the pocket but will permit drainage of water from the shower through the pocket. This opening 4 is a smaller size, therefore, than the opening 3.
The inclined side wall of the pocket is indicated by the numeral 5, and the free side edges which have been sewed to the seam of the panels are indicated by the numeral 6.
Each of the panels may be provided with a folded over reinforcing top portion 1 through which a plurality of holes 8 extend. These holes are for the reception of hooks which slide on a rod forming the support for the curtain.
The panels are provided with side edges 9 and l0.
The drawing discloses a curtain comprising a plurality of panels. While this construction is the preferred one, it will be understood that the shower curtain may be composed of a single panel. When using one panel, the pocket preferably would be located adjacent to one of the side edges. It is also Within the limits of the present invention to attach the pocket to the side hem, or the pocket may be heat-sealed to any part of the curtain or attached by other suitable means to the surface of the curtain.
While I have described one form of the invention, it will be understood that other forms within the spirit of the invention may be used and that I desire to be limited in the practice of my invention only to the extent set forth in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A shower curtain comprising a plurality of panels of flexible material, a pocket of flexible material in the shape of a truncated cone having an upper opening and a lower opening, said upper opening being larger than said lower opening, said pocket being in the form of a loop of material having side edges, means consisting of a stitched seam for joining the adjacent side edges of a pair of said curtain panels and for securing the side edges of said pocket material in said seam, said upper and lower pocket openings extending to said seam, said lower pocket opening extending across the entire bottom portion of said pocket.
2. A shower curtain comprising a plurality of panels of eXible material, a pocket of Iiexible material in the shape of a truncated cone having an upper opening and a lower opening, said upper opening being larger than said lower opening, said pocket being in the form of a loop of material having side edges, means consisting of a stitched seam for joining the adjacent side edges of a pair of said curtain panels and for securing the side edges of said pocket material in said seam, said upper and lower pocket openings extending to said seam, said lower pocket opening extending across the entire bottom portion of said pocket, said pocket consisting of a single piece of material, the upper opening of said pocket 15 having an edge portion which is diagonal with relation to said seam.
