As shown in Figs. 3 and 4, all of the members in the guard 5 have long slots 60 having inner ends which are crossed or intersected by the cutting edge of the blade. On the other hand, the alternate slots like 6I in the other guard 6 are comparatively short and are not'intersected by the cutting edge 2l where--- by, when thinning the hair, whatever hair falls into the short slots 6| is not cut by theblade.
When using the device for shaving, thejnut ,G5 1
is operated to elevate the'blade l to the position shown in Fig. 5 withthe cutting edges oithe blade a" slight distance 'above the contours I l and l'2g'of the guard. When the device is used for trimming the hair, the hair remaining'onthe skinafter cutting is shortenthe more the blade dis elevated with respect vto the guard 2. .A short Yhaircut is obtained when theblade is near the tips I3 and I4, while a long haircut is obtained if. the blade is in its lowermost position. The length of haircut can be varied by adjusting the blade with respect to the guard tips I3 and lll. 'Ifhe cuttingscan be blown from the device lby moving ,the blade holder 3 to an .elevated positionV beyond that shown in Figg, this being accomplished by operating thenut 45. l
-Y lThe blade holder membersl'l and I8 and guard Zhi/ay be molded in plastic material. f
Ihe--shortouter tubular member and the innertubular extension 48 serve as a handle for the device. l f
It will be apparent that'various modiiications may be made in the invention without .departing from the spiritof the following claimsV Irclaim: `.1.:.1A hair trimming type razor, comprising curved companion razor blade holders for. clampin'gnav double edge razor blade in curved position,
' a guard Afor each of thetWo cutting edges of theV blade,v'each of said guards comprising a plurality Y, vofispaced members having tips extending lengthwisein the general direction of the blade, each of saidmembers having a straight face extend' ving., transversely of the blade and terminating'iri transverse tips, 'said faces of the members of one ofsaid guards respectively lying in a plane, said` faces-of the members of the other of said' guards. lying' in aplane parallel to said'iirst plane,` said' i; planesvbeing spaced apart for vclose proximity withrsaid cutting edges, the outer contour of the members of each guard intersecting its said plane and being inclined to intersect the associated cutn rting edge of the blade at a slight angle which is j steeperthan the plane of the cutting edge of the blade, means supporting said blade holder for' movement -lengthwise of said transverse tips ibe- Vtween (a) a shaving position with eachfcutting.
edge-of the blade s lightly'above the contour of its. associated guard' and (b) progressively longer hair Vtrimming'positions along said planes, re-
` f Y1spectively, inwardly of said shaving position, and
' 4 means for securing said blade holder in adjusted position. l
2. A hair trimming type razor comprising a blade holder having opposed members for clamping the blade therebetween, a guard having transverse tips having faces respectively lying in a plane transverse :to the blade, said guard having teeth having longgslotsin-.position to be intersected by the cutting edge of the blade and having alternate short slots out of range of the :cutting edge of the blade. said short slots having bottom portions infront of said plane and guarding the cutting edge Vof the blade for all positions of adjustment of kthe'cutting edge along said plane, means supporting said blade holder for movement of the )blade parallel .to itself lengthwise of and adjacent said faces of said transverse tips. said means, supporting said blade holder for movement of the blade to a shaving position with the cuttingedge of the blade adjacent the outer lend of said faces, said meanssupporting said blade holder for movement of theblade to a non-shavrt ing and hair cutting position with thercutting edge of the blade inwardly of said shaving position behind said faces and removed from theA outer contour' of said tips by an amount which increases as the cutting edge is adjusted inward- 3. A hair trimming type razor comprising vaf blade holder having opposed curved members for clamping the blade in eurvedposition therebe; tween, a guard having transverse tips, havingnan,r outer inclined contour and havingA faces respectively lyingin a plane-transverse to the iblade. means supporting said blade'holder for move-- ment of the blade parallel toitselfvlengthwise of and in close proximity Awith said faces of said transverse tips, said means supporting said blade holder for movement of the blade to a shaving.;L position with the cutting edge of the blade "adjacent the outer end of saidfaces', saidmeans supporting said vblade holder for movement'ofthe blade to a `nono-shaving and harcuttingpositionV with the cutting edge of the :blade inwardly of vsaid shaving position behind'said `faces and removed from" the Vouter contour -of saidtipsbi`V of said faces.
