The. primary object of this invention is to provide a hair dressing device which shall. be-of simple, inexpensive but veryserviceable: construction, can be readily appliedto andrem'oved by theindividual desiring to dress her hair, and which willreadily facilitate: the. forming of. curls 01: the, cutting of hair toapredetermined hair line as-desired. v

A still further object. of. the invention is to provide a hairdresser-is device inco-nformity with the preceding objects which shall. have an improved manner for curling-and holding, curls secured thereto; and which will facilitate and ensure the cutting of hair to a predetermined contour about the head of the individual.

These, together with various ancillary features and objects of the invention, which. will later become apparent as the following description proceeds, are attained by the presentinvention, a preferred embodiment of. which has been illustrated, by Way of example only, in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Referring first to the sleeves l4, one of which is also shownin Figure 5, it will be seen that each of these sleeves is ofa substantially cylindrical shape, being rolled or otherwise formed from. a,- thin sheet of material; the longitudinal edges of this sheetof material being, disposed in spaced relationtoeach other toprovide a longitudinal slot? therebetween extending the full length of the cylinder, the edges of this slo-tbein'g' indicated at HS-v and 18' in Figure 5, While the members [A are of cylindrical configuration, it will beobserved. that their bases or ends ZELiare disposed at an angle. with respect to the longie tudinal axisof the cylindrical sleeves. 14, which angle is an acute angle or less than a planefpe'r pendicular to the longitudinal axis of the sleeves. The inclination of the ends 20' is such that when the flexible band IOis disposed'about the head of the individual, a substantially even space will be provided between the adjacent ends of adjacent sleeves or cylinders; whereby asubstantially close and even arrangement of the cylinders with respect to each other and their positioning upon thehead of the wearer may be effected.

In the. interests oflightness economy of material, and also to facilitate the'dr-yingiof the hair wound about the cylinders; thesame may conveniently-be provided withsuitable perforations or the like 22 throughout any desired portion or throughoutall of the area of the cylinders: As'shown best in'Figure 4, the inner" surfaces 3 of the cylinders [4 are provided with inwardly bent portions 24 constituting loops through which the flexible band I is threaded, these loops serving to frictionally and slidably retain the cylinders in relatively adjustable positions upon the band.

The two end cylinders [2 are of the same identical construction set forth in connection with the intermediate'cylinders I 4, except that instead of being cylindrical and of the same diameter throughout their length, they are frusto-conical in shape and taper from the end adjacent the cylinders l4, this end being designated by the numeral 26, to their reduced extremity indicated by the numeral 28.

In using the device, it is preferred to position the flexible band upon the head of the wearer in any suitable position and manner, with the two end spools or sleeves l2 facing the front of the individual, with the intermediate cylinders l4 being disposed upon the sides and the rear of the head. This arrangement is disclosed in Fig ure 1.

The second element or assembly. forming the other part of this invention likewise consists of a flexible band or elastic 30' whiQhis similar to that indicated at ID in FigureZ, and which likewise has provided thereon intermediate, spools or cylinders 32 and end spools or sleeves 34.

The intermediate sleeves 32 and the end sleeves 34 are of identical construction with the intermediate sleeves l4 and the end sleeves [2 of the previously described assembly. However, their diameters are slightly less than that of the sleeves of the first mentioned assembly. Moreover, the flexible band 30 is secured to the exterior surface of the sleeves by the integrally formed loops of the material of the sleeves as at 36. As in the preceding set of sleeves, the sleeves of the second set are provided with apertures 38, and with the inclined ends 40. Further, these sleeves are provided with slotted edges 42 and 44 which are of similar contour and shape to the edges [6 and I8 previously described.

In using the device, after the first set of spools or sleeves has been placed upon the head of the wearer as shown in Figure 1, it is intended that the corresponding sleeves of the second set shall be coerced to embrace a corresponding sleeve of the first set by passing the longitudinal slots of the second sleeves over the corresponding first sleeve and the resilient band ID, in order to frictionally clamp and retain therebetween a tress of hair 46 which is rolled about the sleeves l2 and M as shown in Figures 1 and 4. The ends of this tress of hair after being circled about the inner or first sleeve (see Figure 4) will extend through the openings or slots of the two sleeves, it being understood that the slots of the first and second sets of sleeves will be placed in registry with each other. It will thus be seen that the sleeves of the second set constitute resilient clamping or securing means for retaining the tresses of hair in a rolled position upon the sleeves of the first set.

A clamping or retaining means in the form of fastening clips is slidably secured to each of the cylinders or sleeves of the first set, whereby the enveloping sleeves of the second set which constitute hair securing means, may be clamped or retained upon the roll of hair and the inner sleeve as will be apparent from Figures 1, 4 and 6. These clamps or clips preferably comprise relatively narrow fiat strips of material forming shanks 48, these shanks being slidably received in integral loops of material 50 formed on the inner surfaces of the sleeves l2 and I4, so that the shanks are slidably retained on the inner sleeves for longitudinal movement relative thereto. At their outer ends, the shanks 48 are turned over upon themselves at 52 to provide inturned hook portions 54, and at their other ends, the shanks 48 are provided with downwardly extending lugs 56 constituting finger tip projections. It will now be understood that the projections 58 may be grasped by inserting the fingers of the operator within the single sleeve I2 or l4 of the inner set; or Within the nested sleeves as indicated in Figure 4, and the shank and clip may then be moved longitudinally away from the sleeves so that the hook 54 will clear the end of the same and permit the second set of sleeves to be applied or removed. When the second set of sleeves have been applied, the fastening clip is slid inwardly of its supporting sleeve, so that the hook 54 will overlie the ends of the sleeves of the second set, and thereby clamp the concentric sleeves together.

In utilizing the device, the first set of spools or sleeves is placed about the head of the individual at a predetermined distance which is about one inch above the line upon which'it is desired to cut or curl the hair. When so placed, the tresses of hair 46 are curled upwardly upon the outside of the inner sleeves, and rolled thereabout as shown in Figure l and Figure 4, whereupon the sleeves of the second set are then applied, and are retained or locked in their applied position by the above described fastening clips. At this time, it will be noted as shown in Figure 4, that the slots of the two sets of sleeves are in registry with each other, and if it is desired to cut the hair, the ends of scissors may be inserted through these slots, and the hair out along the slot While the sleeves are clamped upon the curled tress of hair.

Alternatively, if hair curling only is desired, the above described operation is performed, and the curls are permitted to remain in place until the hair has dried, whereupon the desired curling or waving effect upon the tresses of hair will be obtained, and at the desired contour line of the hair dress. Of course, if it is desired to cut the hair only, the sleeves will be removed as soon as the above described hair-cutting operation has been performed.

From the foregoing, the construction and operation of the device will be readily understood together with its many advantages, and further explanation is believed to be unnecessary. However, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art after a consideration of the foregoing specification and accompanying drawings, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction shown and described, but all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the appended claims.

Having described the invention, what claimed as new is:

1. A hair dressing device comprising a flexible band adapted to encircle a head of hair, a. plurality of cylindrical shaped sleeves secured thereto in endwise spaced relation, means for securing a tress of hair wound upon each sleeve, said securing means comprising a second set of concentric sleeves each adapted to embrace one of said first mentioned sleeves, a second flexible band, said second set of sleeves being secured in endwise spaced relation in said second band, and

5 clip means carried by said first sleeves for clamping said second set of sleeves to said first mentioned sleeves.

2. A hair dressing device comprising a flexible band adapted to encircle a head of hair, a plurality of cylindrical shaped sleeves secured thereto in endwise spaced relation, means for securing a tress of hair wound upon each sleeve, said securing means comprising a second set of concentric sleeves each adapted to embrace one of said first mentioned sleeves, a second flexible band, said second set of sleeves being secured in endwise spaced relation in said second band, said first and'second sets of sleeves having registrable longitudinally extending slots therein, and having the opposed end portions out along a bias so as to form a circular enclosure about the head when said sets of sleeves are arranged thereover.

3. A hair dressing device comprising longitudinally slotted inner and outer cylindrical shaped sleeves of substantially the same length, fastening clips secured to said inner sleeves and longitudinally slidable thereon, said clips being releasably engageable with the other of said sleeves for retaining the sleeves in nested position with a tress of hair interposed therebetween, said inner and outer sleeves having registering longitudinally extending slots, whereby a tress of hair may be accurately cut by scissors through said registering slots.

A hair dressing device comprising a flexible band adapted to encircle a head of hair, a plu rality of cylindrical shaped sleeves of substantially the same length secured thereto in endwise spaced relation, means comprising a second set of cylindrical shaped sleeves for securing a tress of hair wound upon each of said first mentioned sleeves, means for retaining said securing means, said retaining means comprising a pair of shanks having inturned hooks, means slidably retaining said pair of shanks upon the ends of each of said first mentioned sleeves, said hooks being adapted to engage said securing means.
