2 Claims. (CI. 46-65) invention appertains to toysand more particularly to a novel spinning top.
One of the primaryiobjects of our invention is to provide a pair of independent spinning tops, so arranged and constructed that one of the tops can be spun upon the other top during the spinning thereof so as to produce a new and novel eifect.
Another salient object of our invention is to provide means for spinning a lower top and means for spinning an upper top and for placing the last named top on the lower top while the same is spinning. H
A further object of our invention is to provide a novel frame or holder for supporting one of the tops during the initial spinning thereof, said frame or holder being spinning top can be quickly released and accurately deposited on a desired spot, such as a bottom spinning top.

With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and formation of parts as will be hereinafter more specifically described, claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which drawing Figure 1 is a side elevational view illustrating the lower top of our novel toy and the holder thereof during the initial spinning thereof, parts of the view being shown broken away and in section to illustrate structural detail.

Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the
letter T generally indicates our novel spinning toy and the same includes a bottom spinning top Ill and an upper spinning top II. A holder I2 is provided for facilitating the spinning of the lower top It] and a novel holder I3 is tating the spinning and depositing of the upper top I I.
The bottom top III includes a top body I4 havingv a centrallydisposed axle I5 and the lower end of the axle is provided with a spinning point I6. The
axle extends entirely through the top body and protrudes beyond the upper and lower ends thereof. The extreme upper end of the axle I5 is provided with a concavo-convex disc I! and communicating with the axle center of this disc is a bore I8 which is formed in the axle I5. The portion of the axle I5 between the body I4 and the disc II provides a sleeve or drum around which the spinning cord I9 can be wound.
To facilitate the spinning of the lower top Ill we providelthe holder I2. This holder I2 can be formed in any desired way and from out of any desired material.
In the present instance, we have shown the handle I2 formed from a length of wire and this wire is bent back upon itself to form a handle 20. The forward end of the holder'is bent at right angles to provide a shaft 2 I, which is adapted to be inserted within the bore I8.
In spinning the lower top I0, the handle 20 of the holder is grasped in one hand and the shaft 2I is'inserted in the bore I8. The spinning cord is wound around the axle I5 after which the point It is placed upon the desired surface. The cord I 9 can now be given a quick pull which would impart a spinning action to the top It. The holder I2 can now'be removed from the top.
The upper top II is constructed somewhat upper top II includes a top body 22. Extending detail side elevational provided forfaciliv centrally through the body 22 is the axle 23 and this axle protrudes above and below the body. The lower end of the axle is provided with a spinning point 24. The upper end of the axle is provided with a centrally disposed bore 25. That portion of the axle 23 which protrudes above the body 22 is adapted to have wound thereabout the spinning cord 26.
The holding ,and releasing device 43 for the top I I preferably includes a rod 21 having formed thereon or secured thereto a hand grip 28. The
forward end of the rod 2'! is bent downwardly at right angles to provide a shaft 29 which is adapted to be detachably insertedwithin thebore 25 of the top axle 23.
