ANDRO ENBOM AND JOHN A. ANDERSON, OF AUGUSTA, KANSAS.
PUMP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 259,514, dated June 13, 1882.
Application filed March 17. 1882.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, ANDRO ENBoM and JOHN A.ANDERSON, of Augusta, in the county of Butler and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Pumps; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, referencebeinghad to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective vie w,partl y broken away to show the interior. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the working mechanism alone.
This invention consists in certain auxiliary mechanism, fully described hereinafter, which is adapted for use in connection with a pump of any proper construction for the purpose of lessening the labor of working the same.
A represents the main shaft, supported in any proper bearings, which is provided at one end with the crank a, or other proper means for applying power, and at the other with a fly-wheel, a, as shown.
a represents a wheel, located on the shaft near one end, which is provided on its periphcry with proper buckets, as shown.
(t represents acrank, formed by bending the main shaft, near the center of the same, as shown; and B, a connecting-rod uniting the crank to one end of the bar 0, which bar is centrally pivoted upon a transverse shaft, 0, as shown.
D also represents a connecting-rod, by means of which the other end of bar 0 is united to the handle e of a pump, E, of any proper construction.
6 represents the spout of the pump, the discharge end of which is so located as to deliver the water discharged by it directly into the buckets of the wheel o as shown.
F represents a trough located beneath the wheel a which is provided with a discharge- (No model.)
H represents a hook located upon the side of the case, by means of which the crank a is held against movement when desired.
. I represents a swinging plate, which serves to cover an opening in the case through which the shaft is oiled.
The operation is substantially as follows: By the application of power to the crank a revolution is given to the main shaft A, and by means of this the pump-handle is properly actuated through the intermediate mechanism described. The water lifted by the pump is discharged through the spout c to the buckets of the wheel a, and by these is delivered to the trough F. By means of the construction described the water lifted by the pump is caused, in its passage over the wheel a to give power to the same, and thus lessen the labor required to produce a given result.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In combination with the main shaft having the wheel a? with buckets, and the crank a intermediate mechanism, substantially as described, and a pump of proper construction, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In combination with the main shaft A, having the cranks a a and wheel a, the conmeeting-rods B D, the bar 0, and pump E, as described.
ANDRO ENBOM. JOHN A. ANDERSON.
