This application is -a continuation-in-part application of my copending application Ser. No.
501,860, filed September 10, 1943, now abandoned. The present invention relates to apparatus for the manufacture of hollow glass ware such as for instance bottles, jars, bulbs, etc., comprisprises in combination with the said suction device and associated therewith a screening and protective device in such an arrangement that with the suction device placed within the furnace the said screening device obstructs the working or outletopening so as to obviate radiating and flaming out losses and simultaneously protect the suction device against the heat radiation in the interior of the furnace.
A primary object of the present invention is to provide means for an adjustablemounting for the guide bars that support the said screening and protective device. Briefly stated, this objectand others which will be apparent from the detailed description which follows-is realized by the present invention according to which the said adjustable mounting takes the form of a guide roller device for the screening and protective cap for the aforesaid outlet opening of the glass-melting furnace, said cap being provided with a pair of horizontally-spaced, elon gated bars secured to the cap at substantially the same level and extending exteriorly of the furnace, said guide roller device comprising a plurality of pairs of bar-supporting rollers, each pair being horizontally spaced from the other pair at substantially the same level and being arranged to coact with the lower surface of one of the aforesaid bars, whereby the reciprocating suction device may move between said pairs of rollers and said bars, a horizontal double-armed lever for supporting each pair of rollers, and a vertically adjustable mounting for each said lever, said mounting comprising a horizontal pivot about which said lever is arranged to oscillate. The guide roller device also preferably comprises a rear pair of fixed and vertically spaced rollers for each bar, the latter passing between said spaced rollers and in contact therewith.

12 through which the glass portion to be blown is drawn out from the furnace. c is the transportable base structure of a glass machine not shown in detail on the drawing This glass machine is justaposed to the melting furnace a in order to draw out from the furnace by means of a reciprocating suction device e a parison or glass charge and to introduce the same into a finishing mould d placed on the base structure 0. The suction mould e is mounted onto a supporting arm e connected to a control mechanism (not shown in the drawing) of the glass machine, said suction device being introduced, when the working or outlet opening is open, into the melting furnace and lowered onto the molten glass in order to gather a glass charge whereupon the suction device is moved to a transfer position above the said finishing mould d in order to convey the glass charge into said mould. The suction mould e is covered by a heat protection cap f to which are fastened two bars 9 guided by means of a guiding roller device arranged on the structure 0 and comprising a forward and a rear pair of supporting rollers h and 2' respectively. The two forward rollers h are arranged on a horizontally disposed swing lever 7L such as to afforda better distribution of the weight of the heat protective cap and consequently a longer duration of life of the supporting rollers exposed to the detrimental influence of the furnace heat.

The hub portion 0 together with lever h may be adjusted to the desired position by means of two adjusting nuts 1 screwed on the threaded section m of the rod m.
The mode of operation of the above described apparatus will now be explained:
As soon as the parison mould e begins to move forwardly through the working or outlet opening b to the filling position in the interior of the furnace, the heat protective cap 1 together with the chamotte brick is brought to slide on the longitudinal bars 9 to the interior of the furnace in accordance with the forward motion of the suction mould e, the latter being in this manner practically complegely protected from the radiating heat whilst s aying in the interior of the furnace.
The forward and backward motion is controlled by an actuating mechanism not shown in the drawing. There remains only one aperture directed downwards which remains open for the clipping of the parison mould into the liquid glass. After the gathering of the glass, the heat protective cap follows the parison mould on its return motion to the starting position. The closure .formed essentially by the chamotte brick a remains in the outlet opening b and the side walls of the protective heat cap 1 of cast iron protrude from the wall of the furnace so as to be removed from the influence of the heat radiation of the (Starting position Fig. 1.) Even during standstill of the machine, the protective cap remains in this position shown in Figure 1.
For the protecting brick is provided a covering plate which forms simultaneously the closure of the cap 1; the said covering plate can be made of fire-proof cast-iron.
I do not limit my invention to the structure shown and described, as modifications within the scope of the appended claims maybe made without departing from the spirit of my invention.
What I claim is:
l. A guide roller device for a screening and protective cap for the outlet opening of a glassmelting furnace, which cap is provided with a pair of horizontally spaced, elongated bars secured thereto at substantially the same level and extending exteriorly of said furnace, said guide roller device comprising a plurality of pairs of bar-supporting rollers, each pair being horizontally spaced from the other pair at substantially the same level and being arranged to coact with the lower surface of one of said bars, whereby a reciprocating suction device may move between said pairs of rollers and said bars, a horizontal double-armed lever for supporting each pair of rollers, and a vertically adjustable mounting for each said lever, said mounting comprising a horizontal'pivot about which said lever is arranged to oscillate.
2. A guide roller device for a screening and protective cap for the outlet opening of a glassmelting furnace, which cap is provided with a pair of horizontally-spaced, elongated bars secured thereto at substantially the same level and extending exteriorly of said furnace, said guide roller device comprising a plurality of pairs of forward bar-supporting rollers, each pair being horizontally spaced from the other pair at substantially the same level and being arranged to coact with the lower surface of one of said bars, whereby a reciprocating suction device may move between said pairs of rollers and said bars, a horizontal double-armed lever for supporting each pair of rollers, and a vertically adjustable mounting for each said lever, said mounting comprising a horizontal pivot about which said lever is arranged to oscillate, said device also comprising a rear pair of fixed and vertically spaced rollers for each bar, said bar passing between said spaced rollers and in contact therewith.
