P. H. LEONARD.
SHAVING MUG.
No. 258,777. Patented May 30,1882.
u g INVENTOR:
ATTORNEYS.
7MMM' BY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PETER H. LEONARD, OF NEW YORK, Ni Y.
SHAVlNG-MUG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 258,777, dated May 30, 1882.
Application filed March 4, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER H. LEONARD, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Shavin -Mug, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved cup or mug for making lather for shaving.
The invention consists in a shaving-mug provided with a soap-compartment provided with a spout projecting from the vertical partition of this compartment, which spout is beveled from the upper edge of the partition forming the soap-compartment, whereby when the cup is slightly inclined the surplus water can flow from the soap compartment into the lower part of the mug.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved shaving-mng, and Fig.2 is a cross-sectional elevation of the same.
The mug A, which may be made cylindrical or slightly tapered, is provided in its upper part with a transverse partition, B, the lower edge of which is connected with thesides of the mug by a horizontal partition or bottom, D, thereby forming a com partmentor chamber, E, for receiving the soap from which the lather is to be made, which chamber or compartment is at one side of the upper part of the mug The partition B is provided with a spout, F, projecting from the outer side of the same, which spoutis beveled downward from the upper edge of the partition. The wateris poured into the cup or mug A, and the soap is placed in the compartment E. The lather is formed in the compartment E, and the superfluous water \villtlowfrom thecompartinentEthrough the spout Fit the mug Ais inclined to such an extent that'the bottom of the spout F will be about horizontal. There are no projecting parts which might be broken off, except the handle on this mug, and no drip-apertures are required in the compartment E, as all the water in the compartment E can be drained 011 through the spout F.
Having thus described myinvention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with the cylindrical or tapering shaving-mug A, of the soap-compartment E, formed of the horizontal partition D and the vertical transverse partition B, and provided with the spout F, projecting from the outer side of the said vertical partitions, the said compartment being within and only about one-half the depth of the mug, substantially. as herein shown and described, whereby the superfluous water in the said compartment can be poured into the mug, as set forth.
PETER H. LEONARD.
