PETROLEUM COOKING STOVE. A NO. 258,676. Patented May 30, 1882.
INVBNTOR /M @u @4W/WM ATTORNEY N PUERS. Pholo-Lnlmgmplwr. Wnshmgwn. n. C
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIcE.
CHRISTOPHER RIESSNER, NEW YORK, N. Y.
PETROLEUM COOKING-STOVE,
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 258,676, dated May 30, 1882.
Application inea March 11, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known Athat I, CHRISTOPHER RIEss NER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Petroleum (looking-Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
Thisinvention has reference to improvements in petroleum and other cooking-stoves, whereby the heating-surface of the stove is considerably enlarged by means ot' detachable extension-tops, through which the gases of combustion are drawn off to the outside.
In the accompanyingdrawingm Figure l represents a plan, Fig.2,afrontelevation, partly in section, ot' my improved petroleum cookingstove. Figs. 3 anda are details showing the modes of connection ofthe extensions with the top part ot' the stove, and Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the extension-top.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
In the drawings, A represents the top part 0f a petroleum, gas, or other cookingstove, which is provided with a pot-hole and removable lid. In the side walls ot' the top part, A, are arranged draft-openings a for the passage of the gases ot' combustion, and also socketlioles A', into which are inserted the hookshaped locking-catches B' of the extensiontops B, which are applied to one, two, or more of the side walls ofthe stove. The extensioir tops B are made open at that end' which is connected by the locking-catches B' to the top partof the cookingstove, the adjoining side walls being closed and the outer end walls provided with draft-openings b, as shown clearly in Fig. 5. The hooks B' of the extension-top Barc inserted through the socket-holesA' and bind upon the rim or ledge at the under side of the top plate ofthe stove, said rim or ledge being preferably semirircnlar in cross-section in the socket-holes A', as shown in Fig. 4, so that when the catches are inserted into the socket-holes A'ofthe top part, A, the same will securelysupport the extension-top B alongside of top part, A, and on a level therewith, as shown in Fig. 2. 1
The extension-tops B may be attached to one or more sides of the top part, A, so that space for two, three, four, or five cooking-vessels is provided ou the stove, according to the number of extensiontops made use of. The gases of combustion pass through the openings a of the top part, A, to the interior of extensiontops B, the extension-tops forming draft-fines, wlierebythe heatis drawn to the extreme ends ofthe extensions, so as to heat up the vessels placed thereon.
When not required for use the extensiontops may be readily detached from the top part ot' the ,cookingstove and stored away. In shipping they are arranged sidewise to the body ot' the stove and packed up therewith, requiring less space than when locked to the stove.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and wish to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows:
1. In a petroleum or other cooking-stove, a hollow extension-top tlue provided at its outer end with-a series of openings for the escapeot' gas, and an open inner end, in combination with a horizontal Huesection integral with the main stove, a semicircular hook attached to the hollow extension iIue, and the socket in the top A, by which the two iiues are locked together, substantially as described.
2. ln a petroleum or other cooking-stove,the top part, A, having a series ofpdrat't-openings, a, in combination with an extension, detachable flue with an open end adjoining said top part and a series of exit-openings, b, in its outer end, and with the locking devices B A', substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence ot' two subscribing witnesses.
(IHR. RIESSNER.
