2 Claims. (01. 45 2s) This invention relates to a cover for a soap holder the primary object of which is to prevent the formation of puddles of water in the soap holder which dissolve the soap and also cause the same to become soggy.

Another important object of this invention is to provide a cover for a soap holder which is relatively simple in design and construction, cheap to manufacture in large quantities, easy to assemble together with the soap holder by a common means on a wall, particularly in bathtubs and showers, and very efficient for its intended purpose.

A further object of this invention is to provide a cover for a soap holder of the character described which includes a casin having a door hinged in the front thereof which is so constructed as to allow the bather to have ready access to the soap within the soap holder and which aids in protecting the soap when the door is in a closed position.

These, together with various ancillary objects and features of the invention which will later become apparent as the following description proceeds, are attained by the device, a preferred embodiment of which has been illustrated by Way of example only in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Figure 1 is a front perspective view of the cover;

Figure 2 is a rear perspective view of the cover;

Figure 3 is a sectional view taken substantially on the plane of section line 33 of Figure 1; and

Figure 4 is a sectional view taken substantially on the plane of section line 44 of Figure 1.

Specific reference is now made to the drawings. In the several views in the accompanying drawings and in the following specification reference characters indicate corresponding elements throughout.

Hinged for vertical movement to the bottom free edge of the arcuate front .wall 26 as at 32 is a substantially rectangular door 34 having a finger-engaging recess or notch 36 in its longitudinal free edge. As will be seen clearly from the drawings, the side walls 22 and 24 are vertical and the vertical edges of the door 34 are inturned as at 38 to provide elongated lips which are adapted to engage the outer surfaces of the side walls 22 and 24 when the door is in a closed position as shown clearly in the figures.

The cover 20 is assembled together with the soap holder I l on the wall iii in the following manner. Before the soap holder is securely attached to the wall within the recess l2, the peripheral flange 28 of the cover 20 is made to engage the peripheral flange l8 of the soap holder shown clearly in Figures 3 and 4. Thereafter, headed screws 40 are extended through the triangular notches 30 and the peripheral flange l8 of the soap holder, the screws being made to engage the wall structure Ill. As will be readily understood, the headed portions of the screws will engage the peripheral flange 28 immediately about the triangular notches 30 thereof so that the screws are in effect a common means for holding the cover 20 and the soap holder l4 in assembled relationship upon the wall. It should be understood that, if desired, the soap holder l4 and the cover 20 may be fabricated in one piece as a unitary article.

In use, the bather lifts the cover 34 and hinges the same upwardly so that the hand may be extended beneath the cover to remove soap from the soap holder. Thereafter, the door 34 is released to return to the closed position, the inturned edges 38 'of the door serving with the cover as an effective shield for the soap holder and soap therein.

In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.

It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claims.

Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

1. In combination with a soap holder adapted to be inserted in a recess in a wall and having a peripheral attaching flange, a cover including side walls and a front wall interconnecting the upper portions of said side Walls, the rear free edges of said front and side walls including inwardly extending lateral flanges engaged over the open ended notches through the free edges of said 15 Number a door hinged for vertical movement upon the front edge of said front wall, the free edge of said door extending beyond the soap holder.

2. The combination of claim 1, wherein said door includes inturned vertical edges providing lips adapted to engage the outer surface of said side walls.
