1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to the class of furnaces and heaters, and more particularly to a heater which is adapted to use natural gas or the like as a fuel.
An object of this invention is to provide a heater having means for slidably and removably mounting a burner in order that the burner may be easily removed for cleaning and for repair, if necessary.
A further object of this invention is to provide a novel tray for securely holding a removable burner in position so as to prevent lateral movement thereof.
Still further objects of the invention reside in the provision of a gas heater that is strong, durable, highly efficient in operation, simple in construction and manufacture, capable of being readily and easily disassembled, and which is provided with a burner capable of being easily removed and detached from the rest of the heater.
These, together with the various ancillary objects of the invention which will become apparent as the following description proceeds, are attained by this gas heater having a removable burner, a preferred embodiment of which has been illustrated in the accompanying drawings, by way of example only, wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the removable gas burner in an intermediate stage of being slid into position in the heater;
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view as taken along the line -2-2 of Figure 1, being shown on an enlarged scale for greater detail;
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the gas burner adapted to be slidably emplaced in the heater; and
Figure 4 is a perspective view of a portion of the heater showing most clearly the tray in which the burner is received.
With continuing reference to the accompanying drawings wherein like reference numerals designate similar parts throughout the various views, reference numeral 16 generally designates a heater in which the burner generally designated by reference numeral 12 is adapted to be emplaced. Extending between the side walls 14 and 16 of the heater and secured thereto is a tray member [8 which is provided with a central plate 20 and inwardly and upwardly extending flanges 22 and 24. A door 26 is hingedly attached by suitable hinges 28 to the side wall [4. The door is provided with vents 30 so as to permit the access of air into the recessed area of the heater.
Slidably emplaced on the plate 20 is a base plate 32 which is provided with outwardly and downwardly extending flanges 34 and 36, which flanges 34 and 36 cooperate with the flanges 22 and 24 to prevent lateral motion of the base plate relative to the tray, said flanges 36 cooperating with the plate 20 to space said plate 32 between its side edges from the plate 26. Se-
cured to the base plate 32 are suitable brackets 38 and 46 to. which the burner element 42 is adapted to be secured. A suitable valve 44 is provided for controlling the flow of fuel to the burner nozzles 46. Thus, by merely opening the door 26 and detaching the burner element 42 from the source of fuel supply, a burner can be provided for the heater [0 which may be easily slid from engagement with the tray 18 thus permitting the cleaning thereof with little effort and minimizing the time necessary and the labor involved in repairing the device. By spacing the base plate 32 from the plate 29, or tray, frictional resistance to sliding of said base plate 32 is reduced to a minimum.
Since from the foregoing the construction and advantages of this removable burner for a gas heater will be readily apparent, a further description is believed to be unnecessary.
However, since numerous modifications will readily occur to those skilled in the art after a consideration of the foregoing specification and accompanying drawings, it is not intended to limit the invention to the precise embodiment shown and described, but all suitable modifications and equivalents may be readily resorted to which fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
In combination with a heater having a recess therein and having a support tray, a removable gas burner comprising a base plate, and bracket means securing a burner element to said base plate, said base plate slidably engaging said tray in said heater, and a door hingedly secured to said heater for closing said recess, said tray including a pair of inwardly and upwardly extending flanges. said base plate including a pair of downwardly and outward extending flanges guidingly engaging said inwardly and upwardly extending flanges of said tray and spacing said base plate between said flanges from said tray to reduce frictional resistance to sliding of said base plate.
