Description

Nov. 13, 1951 v A. l.. APPELBAUM 2,574,609
VENETIAN BLIND Filed July 2, 1947 Patented Nov. 13, 1951 TED J STATES `PAT E N T OF FICE -VENETIAN lBLIND AbrahamfL. Appelbaum, Chicago, Ill.
Application July?, 1947; Seria-INU. 758,558
The invention relates, to Venetian blinds and more particularly to a clip for securing the ladder tape to the bottom-bar.
It is an object of the invention to provide a clip secured to the bottom bar ofr a Venetian blind whereby the lower ends of the ladder tape are securely but releasabl'y held.
It is; a further object to provide a clip which may be secured to ther bottom bar with the. securing means beingY masked to; retain a neatappearance.
It is also an object to provide certain features of construction and arrangement of parts tending to enhance-the utilityandlfeiiiciencyv of a device of the character specified.
With these and other objects in view which will become more apparent from the disclosure of the invention, the latter comprises the means set forth in the following specification, particularly pointed out in the claims forming a part thereof, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. l is a fragmentary isometric view of the clip secured to the bottom bar of a Venetian blind.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 2--2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view with parts broken away to disclose the interior.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2, and
Fig. 5 is an enlarged section on the line 5 5.
Referring to the several views in the drawing I generally designates the clip which comprises a bottom plate II having -a length substantially equal to the width of the bottom bar of a Venetian blind.
The plate II has a central elongated slot I2 and to each side thereof an aperture I3. The bottom plate is also provided with notches I4 and I at each lateral edge near the front and rear edge respectively.
A top plate I6 substantially co-extensive with the bottom plate has downwardly bent flanges I1 and I8 which rest on the bottom plate and thus form the side walls of a casing formed by the top and bottom plate and open at the front and rear.
The flanges are each provided with lugs I9 and which are received respectively in the notches I 4 and I5 and are bent over to engage the under- Side of the bottom plate II and securely connect the top plate thereto.
The top plate is provided with a central bayonet 2 slot 2l which .is in registry with the slot l2 of the bottom plate.
The top plate has alsoftwo elongated slots 22 whichz are in. registry with the apertures I3.
VAt; thezfree` edges of the top plate is provided aa ypair of. slots 23` and 24. A clamping: member 25 bent; into an angle iron defining. between its legs; an acute angle.` has lugs. 26' and 211 struckout fromits; middle portion; which enter the slots 23 andi 24: respectivelyy whereby the clamping mem.- ber ,isV hingedly connected` to. the free edge of the topl plate.
The: clamping member .25 isV actuated at the handle portiorry25a1 and its leg :portion 2512 is adapted to clamp the end of a ladder tape 28 to the. bottom plate as clearly shown in Fig, 4.
In use the clip I0 is placed on the bottom bar 29 of a Venetian blind and screws 3U are inserted through the slots 22 and apertures I3 and screwed to the bottom bar, the slots 22 permitting the insertion of a screw driver to turn the screws 30. A cord 3| formed with a knot is inserted in the larger part of bayonet slot 2| and shifted to the narrow portion thereof, as shown in Fig. 1.
Thereupon the ends of the ladder tape are inserted into the clip between the clamping member 25 and the bottom plate and the handle part 25a is depressed to securely clamp the tape to the bottom plate. Upon raising of the part 25a the tape may be released.
The drawing shows one embodiment of the invention. Various changes and alterations may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, wish to include all variations, modifications and changes constituting departures within the scope of the invention as dened in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A clip for securing a ladder tape of a Venetian blind to the bottom bar, including a bottom plate, a top plate having downwardly extending lateral flanges resting on the bottom plate, said top plate being provided with integral lugs adapted to be bent around the bottom plate in notches therein to secure said plates together, said bottom plate and said top plate being provided with registering openings for the insertion of fastening members in securing the clip to the bottom bar and clamping members hingedly connected at and rocking on the free edges of said top plate extending between said iianges thereon and adapted to pivot to press the tape against the bottom plate.
2. A clip for securing a ladder tape of a Venetian blind including a rectangular casing, having a top and bottom plate and open at two opposite sides and closed on two opposite sides, and clamping members each hingedly secured to rock on free edges of said top plate on said open sides thereof, said top and bottom plates being provided with registering openings for the insertion of fastening means in securing the clip to the bar of a Venetian blind.
3. A tape clip for Venetian blinds comprising a plate having a pair of opposite approximately parallel edges, a V-shaped tape-clamp, rockably seated in its apex portion on each said edge, and interfitting formations on said edges and the seated portions of the corresponding clamps securing the latter thereon for free rocking movement, one leg of each said clamp tting back against a face of said plate when the clamps are in clamping position, said clip being adapted to be mounted on a blind bar to clamp a tape portion between the remaining legs of each said clamp and a surface spaced toward the said bar from said edges of the plate, and means for attaching said clip to said bar.
4. In a tape clip for Venetian blinds a rst plate having a pair of flanges on opposite margins thereof and a pair of free edges on opposite sides thereof extending between said iianges, a clamp of approximately V-shape seated in a bight portion thereof to rock on each of said free edges, interfitting lug and slot formations in said bight portions and the corresponding free edge portions securing said clamps in rocking position as aforesaid, a second plate secured to said first plate in spaced relation to the latter to leave tape-receiving openings at said free edges, one leg of each said clamp being disposed to approach said second plate to clamp a tape portion therebetween when rocked into clamping position, thel other leg of each said clamp iitting closely back against the outside face of said first plate when the clamps are in clamping position as aforesaid.
5. A clip for tapes comprising a at casing having at least one open end to receive a tape, a curved lever rocking at its curved part on a top edge of said casing at the open end thereof and having a tongue projecting into said open end to press a tape against the bottom of the casing, and a manipulating part on the outside of the casing to overlie the top of the casing and adapted to be pressed downwardly toward said top to press the tape as aforesaid and loosely intergaged tongue and slot parts on the lever and casing top securing the lever for rocking movement on the top edge as aforesaid.
