This invention relates to a combination ,bowlers and traveling bag. The main object of the invention is to provide in combination with a conventional form of bowlers grip or bag, an inner pocketed unit comprising flexible double linings for removable insertion within the bag, said linings being arranged in overlapped relation and stitched together on vertically extended seams that are spaced laterally apart for the purpose of forming pockets for receiving various articles of utility, such as shoes, clothing, gloves, handkerchiefs or the like, the central pocket within the bag being adapted for holding a bowlin ball.

With the stated objects in view, together with such additional objects and advantages as may appear from the specification, attention is now directed to the accompanying drawing as embodying a preferred form of the invention, and

Figure 2 is a vertical section on the line 22 of Figure 1, showing the removable and pocketed insert of Figure 1 as mounted within an outer conventional form of bowlers bag, the latter being indicated in dotted lines, and the bag and. insert being shown as closed in this view.

Figure 3 is a longitudinal vertical section on the line 33 of Figure 1, showing the pocketed insert as mounted within the outer bag, the latter being indicated in dotted lines as in Figure 2, with the bag and insert in closed position.

Figure 4 is a fragmentary, vertical section, showing the lower portion of the combined bag and pocketed insert, with the latter elevated somewhat above the bottom of the outer bag, for the purpose of providing space for a shirt, dress or blouse.

My invention is a removable, pocketed bag or insert represented generally at 5, made of any suitable flexible material such as cloth or soft leather, and dimensioned for positioning within a conventional form of bowlers bag or grip, such as here represented at 6.

The outer bag 6 is generally formed of leather, and includes a stiff bottom 6a, relatively pliable sides 6b and ends 60. Handles 5d are extended at the upper margins of the sides, and the end portions 60 are partially split down or parted centrally and vertically as at 5d, to enable the upper portions of the sides 6b to be opened apart for placing things within the bag.

(01. -51) 2 5 is made of any suitable, flexible material such as cloth or soft leather, and this unit conforms generally with the'shapingof the outer bag or grip 6 and. includes a bottom 5a, sides 51) and ends 50. The sides 5b are extended upwardly above the ends 50 and are provided along their upper margins with snap buttons 1, arranged in regularly spaced relation, the basal counterparts la of these buttons being mounted along the inner faces of the upper margins of the sides 51) of the outer bag or grip 6, as indicated in dotted lines in Figure 1, in co-operative alignment with the complemental button parts 1. By this arrangement the inner, pocketed unit 5 may be readily inserted into or removed from the outer bag or grip 6 as desired, and it is to be noted that the ends 50 of the unit 5 are shortened down so as to fall in substantial alignment with the lower end or bight of the parting 6d of the outer bag or grip 6, thus facilitating the opening and closing of the combination unit in use.

A relatively narrow pocket-forming strip 8 of cloth or other suitable material is extended laterally around within the lower portion of the inner bag 5, and at spaced intervals this strip is secured to the vertical sides and ends of the bag 5, as by the vertically extended seams 8a (Figure 1) for forming relatively wide pockets 9 at the sides of the unit, or by partition strips 8b for forming the relatively narrow pockets 9a at the ends of the unit. These pockets 9, 9a may be either closed at their bottom margins or may be left open thereat, as ma be preferred.

Figures 2 and 3 show the bottom 5a of the inner bag 5 as brought down close upon the bottom 6a of the outer bag 6, but in Figure 4 the bottoms of these bags are shown as spaced apart by raising the bottom 5a of the inner bag 5, thus providing an intervening space I0 wherein may be placed a shirt, or dress or blouse, this being done of course before the inner bag 5 i inserted into the outer bag 6. The pockets 9,-9a, form receptacles for shoes, clothing, gloves, handkerchiefs, ties or toilet articles, while the large central and open portion of the unit serves as a receptacle for a bowling ball or foot-ball or other relatively large article.

It is thought that the construction and use of the combination unit will be readily understood from the foregoing description, and while I have here shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention and specific structural features thereof, the same may be changed or modified as desired, within the scope of the claims. For example, in lieu of the snap buttons shown for securing the inner bag and pockets within the outer bag, zipper fasteners might be employed. Likewise, the formation of the inner pockets might be varied.

I claim:

1. A removable, pocketed insert for mounting within a conventional form of bowlers grip or bag including, a bottom, sides and ends, the latter being partially parted vertically'down through their upper portions to enable the bag to be opened and closed in use, said pocketed insert including a flexible bottom, sides and ends, a flexible pocket-forming strip extending around the inner side of the insert and having side and end portions spaced from the insertto form p0ck ets, the corners of the strip being secured to the sides of the insert, the sides of the pooketedinsert being extended upwardly above the ends and the bottom thereof being unattached to the bottom of the bag and capable of being spaced above the bottom of the bag for providing storage space therebetween, and means for removably securing the pocketed insert in place within the bag, said 4 means being located upon the upwardly extended sides of the pocketed insert.

2. A structure as called for in claim 1 characterized by partition strips extending between the ends of the pocket-forming strip and ends of the pocketed insert.
