Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEVIS PAGIN, OF ELMORE, OHIO.
COMBINED TABLE AND CLOTHES-DRIER.
Specicaton of Letters Patent No. 25,669, dated October 4, 18159 To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEwIs PAGIN, of Elmore, in the county of Ottawa and State of of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Combined Tables or Sta-nds and Clothes-Driers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operatio-n of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure l represents the table or stand as it appears when the clothes-drier is taken down, packed within the box or drawer of the table, and the table top put on. Eig. 2 represents the clothes drier arranged for use upon thev table or stand.
I am aware that, a hinged clothes frame has been combined with a table, but it is so unwieldy as to be of doubtful utility, and its expense renders it very objectionable.
il/Iy invention consists in so constructing and arranging a reversible table top, and jointed arms for holding the clothes line, as that they may readily be connected or disconnected, and when disconnected the said arms may be packed away within the box or recess of the table, as will be explained.
A represents a stand or table, the top B, of which is supported on a pin or pivot C, in such manner as that it may be freely and easily turned around thereon. Underneath this top B, there is a box or recess, capable of containing the ribs or arms D of which the clothes-frame or drier is composed.
The ribs or arms D, are composed of two curved pieces, which form a bracket. They are hinged or pivoted at a, by a screw or other headed pivot passing through a slot in one piece, and rmly united to the other piece. There is a stud or projection c, on one of the pieces which takes into a recess in the other piece, for holding them rigidly together when spread out. The object of the slot at the joint is, to let this projection c slip into its recess.
The table top B, is reversible, and upon what constitutes its under side when converted into a table, there are four (less or follows: Take off the top, which is only held l by its center pin C, and then lift out the arms or ribs, and the line, which may be kept in the recess of the table. Turn the table top upside down, which brings the female fastenings in view. Attach the arms or ribs to these fastenings, straighten out, and secure the hinged portions of the arms, and the frame is set up. The clothes line may have a loop in one of its ends which is hooked over a catch at c. It then passes around the series of arms or ribs D, dropping into recesses f on each to hold it up, and finally the other end of the line may be fastened to the top of one of said ribs, when the clothes drier is ready to receive any clothes that is to be put upon it. The whole frame and top will readily turn around on the center pivot C, so as to bring the clothes to the sun or lire as may be desired. I thus make a very useful and cheap household article that may be used as a stand or table and a clothes drier, as occasion may require.
Having thus fully described the nature and object of my invention what I claim therein as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent ism A combined table or stand, and a clothes drier, composed substantially of a table or stand with a reversible top, and a box drawer or recess, and two or more jointed arms thatwill fold up and lie within said box drawer or recess, the whole being combined and arranged for the purpose set forth.
