TEE HOLDER ATTACHMENT FOR GOLF BAGS Filed Nov. 8, 1948 a: M INVENTOR.
I/a[M.5r00 5 2/ g av M Patented Aug. 21, 1951 TEE HOLDER ATTACHMENT FOR GOLF BAGS Val M. Brooks, Okoboji, Iowa Application November 8, 1948, Serial No. 58,967
1 Claim. (Cl. 224---) This invention relates to tee holders for retaining tees in position where they may be con- -veniently reached in playing golf, and in particular a holder having a plurality of tee receiv- 1 ing sockets for holding tees in upright positions and having spring clips at the ends by which the holder may be supported on the upper end of the golf bag with the tees extending slightly over the edge so that they may be conveniently withdrawn.
The purpose of this invention is to provide a golf bag tee holder in which the tees are always held in a position from which they may readily be Withdrawn and which is also positioned so that the tees may readily be replaced therein after using.
- Numerous devices have been provided for holding tees while playing golf, some of which are attached to the clothing and some to golf bags, and openings have been provided in leather flaps or strips on golf bags for holding tees, but with devices of this type the large end of the tee bears against the side of the golf bag or clothing and it is difficult to grip the tee with the thumb and forefinger. For the same reason, it is also difficult to replace the tee. With this thought in mind, the invention contemplates a unique holder for tees that is readily snapped over the rim of a golf bag and which supports the tees so that the large or upper ends thereof are protruding beyond the rim of the bag where they may be conveniently gripped to facilitate withdrawing the tees from and inserting the tees into the sockets therein.
The object of this inveniton is, therefore, to
provide an improved holder for tees that is adapted to accommodate a plurality of tees and that may be positively retained on the rim of a golf bag without bolts or screws or other permanent attaching means.
Another object of the invention is to provide a golf tee holder in which the tees are frictionally held in sockets therein so that they may be readily removed and replaced without spring clips or the like.
Another object of the invention is to provide a tee holder for golf bags that may be used on substantially any golf bag without changing the construction thereof.
A further object of the invention is to provide a tee holder for golf bags which is of a simple and economical construction.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and which will show the preferred embodiment of the invention and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a view showing a front elevation of the tee holder with the holder positioned on the rim of a golf bag and with parts of the bag broken away;
Figure 2 is a plan view of the tee holder;
Figure 3 is a view showing an end elevation of the tee holder with the holder positioned on the rim of a golf bag and with the rim shown in section, and;
Figure 4 is a sectional plan through one end of the tee holder illustrating the relative positions of the parts and with the opposite end of the holder broken away.
Referring now to the drawings wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts of the invention, the golf tee holder of this application includes a continuous strap 10 with spring clips I I and I2 in the end and with the sides secured together by rivets l3 which form sockets I4.
The strap I0 may be made of leather, plastic, or any suitable material and as illustrated in Figure 2, the ends are bent around forming sockets I5 and IS in which the spring clips H and [2 are mounted, respectively. In the design shown, the ends I! and I3 of the strip are secured together by one of the rivets l3, as shown in Figure 2.
The spring clips H and I2 are formed with comparatively short outer legs I9 and 20 and long inner legs 2| and 22, respectively. These clips are U-shaped and the closed ends may be slightly bowed, as illustrated in Figure 3.
With the parts arranged in this manner, the tee holder may be readily installed on a rim 23 of a golf bag 24 and tees 25 may be inserted in the sockets l4 and with the holder positioned as illustrated in Figure l, the upper ends of the tees extend beyond the upper edge of the bag so that as a golf club is withdrawn, the player may also withdraw one of the tees. The tees are therefore retained in convenient position so that they may easily be withdrawn and after use, the tees may be just as easily replaced by pressing them downwardly into the sockets.
It will be understood that modifications may be made in the design and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What is claimed is:
In a golf bag tee holder, the combination which 3 comprises a fiat strip of material folded against itself providing two parallel strips with abutting parts of the strips bowed outwardly at spaced points throughout the length of the intermediate sections thereof, rivets extended through said parallel strips between the said outwardly bowed parts securing the strips together and providing transversely disposed tee holding sockets between the outwardly bowed parts of the strips, the meeting surfaces of said strips being spaced apart at points spaced from the ends providing elongated transversely disposed fiat sockets in the ends of the holder, and inverted U-shaped spring clips having long and short legs with the short legs extended through the flat sockets in the ends of the holder and the long legs positioned to extend over the edge of a golf bag for retaining the said holder on the upper end of the bag whereby the upper ends of golf tees positioned in the sockets of the holder extend above the rim of the golf bag to facilitate withdrawing the tees from the holder.
