4 Claims. 1 This invention relates to a novel container to be carried by a baby stroller or walker to assist in the transportation of groceries and other marketed items.

The primary object of this invention is to providea device of the character described which is,

in effect, "a collapsible receptacle having telescoping sections so that the entire container will occupy relatively little space on the body of the stroller or walker when not in use.

A further object of this invention is to provide a device of the character described including means carried by the telescoping sections for readily and easily raising the receptacle, and further means for adjustably retaining the sections in any desired raised position.

A still further object of this invention is to provide a container of the character described including a cover hingedly secured to the topmost section of the telescoping receptacle which cover opens away from the stroller handle to allow for easy packing of the receptacle and also easy access thereto.

A still further important object of this invention is to provide a device of the character described which is inexpensive to construct, simple to attach to a baby stroller or walker, and extremely easy to manipulate when used.

These, together with various ancillary objects and features of the invention which will later become apparent as the following description proceeds, are attained by the device, a preferred embodiment of which has been illustrated, by way of example only, in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the container shown expanded and attached to a baby stroller;

Figure 2 is a top plan view of the device shown in Figure 1;

Figure 3*is a sectional view taken substantially in a plane of section line 3--3 of Figure 2;

Figure 4 is a further sectional view of the device;

Figure 5 is a fragmentary sectional View illustrating the means of retaining the receptacle in adjusted position upon the handle of the stroller; and

Figure 6 is a front elevational view of the retaining bar attached to the stroller handle.

Specific reference will now be made to the drawings. In the several views, in the accompanying drawings and in the following specification, similar reference characters indicate corresponding elements throughout.

Indicated at 10 is a baby stroller having a handle I2 secured in any appropriate manner to the sides M of the stroller. As will be readily understood, the guard 16 on the seat l8 of the stroller is separated from the rearwardly inclined handle [2 by an extended seat or body portion 20. It is upon this body portion 20 and in the space between the handle [2 and the rear of the shield [6 that the container 22 of the instant invention is retained, as will be described herelnafter.

As will be seen clearly in Figures 1 and 3, the receptacle 22 consists of telescoping sections '24, 26, and 28 which may be of any desired configuration but preferably cylindrical and which may also be fabricated of metal, plastic, textile webbing, canvas, etc. It will also be readily understood that while three telescoping sections are shown, the invention is not limited to this number, as a greater or lesser number of sec tions may readily be employed.

It will be noted that only the bottom-most section 24 is provided with a bottom wall 30 which is secured to the body member 20 by means of appropriate screws or other fastening devices 32. As will be readily understood, the lowermost section 24 is narrower than the intermediate section 26 which, in turn, is narrower than the topmost section 28. Ihe lowermost section 24 is provided with an annular rim 34 at its top edge for engaging the annular rim 36 at the bottom edge of the intermediate section 26, and the intermediate section 26 is ,provided with an annular rim 38 at its top edge which engages the annular rim 40 at the bottom end of the topmost section 28 when all of the sections are extended, as shown in Figures 1 and 3.

To raise or extend the sections and lower or compress the same, the sides of the topmost section 28 are provided with conventional handles 42 retained on the sides in any suitable manner. It will also be understood that any size and shape handle may be employed.

Hingedly secured, as at 44, is a cover 46 which preferably contains a peripheral flange 48 which, when closed, engages the sides of the topmost member 28 about the annular rim 50 provided at the top or open edge thereof. As will be seen clearly in dotted lines in Figure 3, the cover 46 opens away from the stroller handle [2 so that food can be properly packed in the section and can be properly withdrawn therefrom by the person pushing the stroller by means of the handle.

A means for retaining the sections in adjusted raised or lowered positions is provided which will be described hereinafter. This means consists of a vertical bar 52 having vertically spaced apertures 54 therethrough, which bar is suspended by any suitable means upon the handle [2. In the modification shown in drawings, the handle [2 is of the constricted type drawing together at the constriction by means of a transversely extending bolt 56 and, when such a handle construction is employed, the bar 52 may be welded or otherwise attached to the bolt 56. It is to be understood, however, that the bar 52 can be readily supported by any suitable means upon a stroller handle of any construction whether it be the constricted type or the U-shaped type. Secured to the rear wall 58 of the topmost section 28 by means of a suitable double headed pin 60 is a hook member 62 which extends rearwardly of the topmost section 28, and as will be readily understood, after the sections have been appropriately raised by means of the handles 42, the hook 62 may be made toengage a selected one of the spaced apertures 54 in the bar 52 to keep the sections suspended upon the stroller in any desired position.

In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, it is believed that a clear understanding of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.

It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention, the same is susceptible to. certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and within the scope of the appended claims.

Having described the claimed as new is:

1. A container attachment for a baby stroller comprising a collapsible receptacle having telescoping sections, means for securing the lowermost section to the body of the stroller, means for raising said sections, and means for adjustably retaining said sections in a raised position, said last-named means including a vertical bar secured to the stroller handle having vertically invention, what is 4 spaced apertures and a hook member secured to the topmost section adapted to engage a selected aperture.

2. A container attachment for a baby stroller comprising a, collapsible receptacle having telescoping sections, means for securing the lowermost section to the body of the stroller, means for raising said sections, means for adjustably retaining said sections in a raised position, and a cover hingedly secured to the topmost section to open away from the stroller handle.

3. A container attachment for a baby stroller comprising a collapsible receptacle having telescoping sections, means for securing the lowermost section to the body of the stroller, means for raising said sections, means for adjustably retaining said sections in a raised position, said last-named means including a vertical bar secured to the stroller handle having vertically spaced apertures and a hook member secured to the topmost section and adapted to engage a selected aperture, and a cover hingedly secured to the topmost section to open away from the stroller handle.

4. The combination of claim 3, wherein said means for raising the sections includes handles carried at the sides of the topmost section.
