UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PAUL P. HERBERG AND PETER H. OLAUSSEN, OF GALE, WISCONSIN.
GRAlN-SEPARATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 255,982, dated April 4, 1882. Application filed June 17, 1881. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may cancer-n:
Be it known that we, PAUL P. HERBERG and PETER. H. CLAUSSEN, both of the town of Gale, in the county of 'lrempealeau and State of Wisconsin, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Grain-Separators, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to that class of machines in which the grain is separated from its accompanying refuse by means of a blast and suitable screens; and it consists of certain minor improvements, as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents an elevation of one side of a grainseparator having our improvements applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section through the-center of the machine and improvements. Fig. 3 represents an enlarged side elevation of the elevator-head and sack holder, and Fig. 4 is a sectional plan of the same.
A denotes the frame of the machine, arranged to support and accommodate the several operatin g parts.
B is the hopper, into which the grain to be cleaned is shoveled.
areprcsents asliding gate in the hopper for regulating the feed of the grain to the machine. D is the shoe, suspended between the sides of the frame by straps in the usual manner.
Q represents an elevator or conveyer box, which is not here specifically described, as it is designed to make this the subject of a separate-application. This elevator-box is pivotally and removably attached at one end to the machine-frame, and the other or elevated end has the ends of two ropes, R, attached to a roller, S. This roller S is pivoted to the top of the machine-frame, and is provided with a ratchet-wheel, s, that engages with a pawl,j, for adjustably suspending the said e1evatorbox at any desired inclination.
The elevator is of a length to reach to a horizontal position with the roller S when raised for attaching a sack. The position ofthe ropes u when the elevator is thus raised is as seen in Fig.3. When in its lower position the ropes R will assume the angle shown in Fig. 1.
At the head ofthe elevator-box a sack-holder is arranged, which consists of a square spout, T, into which the cleaned grain is dumped by the buckets of the endless apron. As itis designed to make this sack-holder the subject of a separate application, its peculiar construction is not now set forth.
Having thus described our present improvements, what we claim therein is- The combination, with a grain-separator and a grain-elevator provided with a sack-holder, of the ropes R, roller S, ratchet-wheel s, and pawlj for adjustably suspending the elevatorhead, substantially as set forth.
The above specification signed by us, in the presence of two witnesses, this 8th day of June, 1881.
PAUL P. HER'BERG. PETER H. oLAUssEN.
Witnesses:
DAVID E. TRUAX, ROBERT H. BENDER.
