Description

u y A. C. FURR HEMORRHOID TRUSS Filed Sept. 16, 1949 INVENTOR ASA C. FOOQE,
ATTORNE .5
Patented July 10, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE HEMORRHQID v TRUSS Asa C. Furr, Sedgwick, 0010.
Application September 16, 1949, Serial No. 116,091
This invention relates to anatomical trusses or supports, and more particularly to a support for relieving the pain and inconvenience of hemorrhoids or piles.
It is among the objects of the invention to provide an improved hemorrhoid truss which is of minimum size for the intended purpose, ex tremely flexible, and comfortable to wear, yet will effectively support and compress a hemorrhoid condition, substantially eliminating the pain and inconvenience of such a condition, which maintains a predetermined, substantially uniform pressure on the affected body part, which is easy to put on and take off and properly adjust, and which is simple and durable in construction, economical to manufacture, and highly sanitary in use.
Other objects and advantages will become apparent from a consideration of the following description and the appended claims in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure l is a diagrammatic front elevation of a human figure showing applied thereto a hemorrhoid truss illustrative of the invention;
Figure 2 is a rear elevation of the diagrammatic figure illustrated in Figure 1 and showing the rear portion of the truss applied to the figure;
Figure 3 is a cross-section on the line 3-3 of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a cross-section on an enlarged scale on the line 4-4 of Figure 3; and
Figure 5 is a perspective view of a portion of the truss.
With continued reference to the drawing, the truss comprises an elongated, narrow strap ll] of suitable textile webbing having at one end a belt loop I l and having near its opposite end two eyeleted holes I! and I3. A belt M also made of suitable textile webbing is passed through the belt loop ll of the strap l and provided with a suitable buckle or other fastener [4, so that the belt can be secured around the waist of the wearer. Two tapes or strings l and I6 are secured respectively in the holes 12 and I3 of the strap l0, and extend outwardly from the corresponding end of the strap for attachment to the belt [4 at locations respectively spaced from the belt loop II and at opposite sides of the buckle I 4. When the device is worn, the belt loop H is positioned at the center of the back of the wearer, the strap II! is brought between the legs in position against the crotch, and the two tapes l5 and I6 are brought from the forward end of the strap l0 upwardly and attached to the belt at locations at the opposite side of and equally 4 Claims. (Cl. 128-98) 2 spaced from the buckle It which is located at the center of the front or abdomen of the wearer;
The tapes l5 and it may be single strands, each secured at one end in a respective eyeleted hole of the strap it, or may be doubled and se-' cured in the eyeleted holes at their mid-length positions.
A pad, generally indicated at ll is secured on the upper or inner side of the strap it at a location adjacent the eyeleted holes l2 and It, and is adapted to be pressed against the affected body part. This pad is a rounded or dome-shaped body having a cylindrical base and a substantially hemispherical upper or outer end, and comprises a core I9 of a stiff, resilient material such as the rubber normally used in shoe heels, and a relatively thick outer layer or covering 2c of soft, resilient material, such as sponge or foam rubber. This pad may be secured in adjusted position longitudinally of the strap it by suitable means, such as the wood screw 2| extending through the strap and threaded into the core IQ of the pad.
An elongated, flat spring 22 extends longitudinally of the strap at the side thereof opposite the pad I! from a position contiguous to the eyeleted holes I? and I3 to a position adjacent the midlength location of the strap. This spring is secured to the strap, at its opposite ends, by suitable means, such as the rivets 23 and 2t, and is so positioned that the pad It is located intermediate the length of the spring. The spring thus applies a predetermined and substantially uniform pressure to the pad I! so that the pad will, in turn, maintain a predetermined, substantially uniform pressure on the afiected body part.
The presence of the spring 22 eliminates the necessity of tightening the strings I5 and l6 to a point of discomfort to the wearer and materially increases the comfort and convenience of the device. The device is easy to adjust to any individual wearer by merely removing the screw 2| and locating the pad ll at the proper position longitudinally of the strap l0, and the desired tension can be applied by properly attaching the tapes [5 and It to the belt.
The invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the spirit or essential characteristics thereof. The present embodiment is, therefore, to be considered in all respects as illustrative and not restrictive, the scope of the invention being indicated by the ap pended claims rather than by the foregoing description, and all changes which come within the meaning and range of equivalency of the claims 3 are, therefore, intended to be embraced therein.
What is claimed is:
l. A hemorrhoid truss comprising an elongated flexible strap having a belt loop at one end and two eyeleted holes adjacent its opposite end, a belt extending through the loop of said strap and adapted to surround the waist of a wearer, two tapes secured each at one end in a respective hole of said strap and attachable to said belt at locations spaced from said belt loop, a rounded pad secured on one side of said strap intermediate the length of the latter and engageable with the affected body part, and a fiat, elongated spring extending longitudinally of said strap at the opposite side of the latter and secured at its ends to said strap in a position such that said pad is located intermediate the length of said spring.
2. A hemorrhoid truss comprising an elongated flexible strap having a belt loop at one end and two eyeleted holes adjacent its opposite end, a belt extending through the loop of said strap and adapted to surround the waist of a wearer, two tapes secured each at one end in a respective hole of said strap and attachable to said belt at locations spaced from said belt loop, a rounded pad secured on one side of said strap intermediate the length of the latter and engageable with the afiected body part, and a fiat, elongated spring extending longitudinally of said strap at the opposite side of the latter and secured at its ends 30 Number to said strap in a position such that said pad is located intermediate the length or said spring, said pad comprising a dome-shaped body having a core of stifi resilient material and a covering of soft resilient material.
3. In a hemorrhoid truss including a flexible strap, means secured to the ends of said strap for supporting the latter in position on the body of a wearer, and a flat spring secured to said strap and extending longitudinally thereof, a pad secured to said strap between the ends of said flat spring and comprising a dome shaped body having a substantially cylindrical base and including a rounded core of stiff rubber and a covering of expanded rubber enclosing said core.
4. In a hemorrhoid truss including a flexible strap, means secured to the ends of said strap for supporting the latter in position on the body of a wearer, and a flat spring secured to said strap and extending longitudinally thereof, a pad secured to said strap between the ends of said flat spring and comprising a dome shaped body having a substantially cylindrical base and including a rounded core of stifi resilient material and a covering of resilient material materially softer than the material of said core enclosing and secured to the latter.
