GOLFERS GLOVE Filed Sept. l5 1947 INVENTOIL Emy/"el /r/:Mef BY Patented May 29, 1951 UNITED STATES PATNT OFFICE This invention relates to an improvement in a golfers glove, and has for its object to provide a glove, in the short nger and thumb portions of which there is provided a gusset or triangular piece of woven or elastic material is sewed or otherwise connected therento on the palm side of the glove, to prevent the leather or other material out of which the glove is made, from curling into folds and creeping up on the ngers and thumb, customary with the short ngered gloves now in use.

A further object of the invention relates to an improvement in means incorporated in the glove positioned between the thumb and index finger for the purpose of locating the handle or shaft of the golf club in the hand in an efficient position to assist in positioning the hand thereon so that the interlocking grip may be accomplished with a minimum of effort.

A still further object is to provide a means to prevent relative movement `of the club in the hand when gripped and being swung in making a drive and in the follow through thereof.

Other objects of the invention will appear from the following description and appended claims.

In the drawing- Figure 1 is an elevation of the palm side of a short nger and thumb glove embodying my invention, the ange and thumb portions thereof spread apart to illustrate its construction.

Figure 2 is an illustrative form of a glove with long finger and thumb portions showing the inserts incorporated therein.

Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawing which illustrates practical embodiments of my invention I designates the main body portion of the glove shown in Figure 1 which may be made out of comparatively thin exible leather and formed with short ngers 2, 3, 4 and 5 and a thumb portion 6.

In the finger portions of the glove there is provided a gusset shaped piece of triangular shaped configuration as at l, 8, 9 and I9, and in the thumb portion as at II, of woven elastic fabric or the like to prevent the respective portions from curling into folds or bends when the hand is closed in gripping the club handle or shaft.

Between the thumb and index finger there is provided an insert I2, reinforced at its edge I3 to prevent its tearing with the swing up of the club in making a drive.

The triangular shaped gussets are held in place by means of sewing or otherwise, and they are so designed that when the fingers are closed in gripping the club handle, their resistance to bending is minimized because of their triangular shape, and that is made possible because their surface area is reduced as they approach the palm of the hand portion of the glove.

The insert between the thumb and index nger decreases the tendency of the club toswing up between the thumb and index finger in making a drive. Because of its structure it holds the thumb in close contact with the index ringer, a feature the player is obliged to accomplish, because it is the correct position of thumb and index nger relative to the grip on the club handle in making a drive and in carrying it through to completion.

In Figure 2 of the drawing in the body portion I4 of the glove there is provided inserts in the thumb and inger portions as at I5, IB, II, I8 and I9. Between the thumb and index finger there is incorporated an insert 20 to hold the index nnger and thumb in close position for the same purpose as that given in explanation of Figure 1. In the palm portion of the glove body III there is provided an insert 2|, the various inserts assisting in maintaining the grip on the club handle.

As many changes could be made in the above described invention and many apparently widely different embodiments of this invention could be made without departing from the scope thereof, it is intended that al1 matter contained in the above description or shown in the accompanying drawing shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

What is claimed is:

1. As an new article of manufacture, a golfers glove comprising finger and thumb compartments, a flexible elastic portion interposed between and connected to the index finger and thumb portions and triangular shaped gussets in the linger and thumb portions on the palm surface of the glove.

2. As a new article of manufacture, a golfers glove comprising short iinger portions, triangular elastic inserts on the palm side of the finger portions.
