SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 255,407, dated March 28, 1882.

To all whom it may concern:

Beit known that I, AUGUSTUS BEALS, of North Weymouth,of the county ot'Nort'olk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Meshed or Netted Fabrics; and l do hereby declare the same to be described in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, ot' which- Figure l isa representation of the arrangement of the strands to effect the construction ofthenewmanufactureconstitutingmysaidinvention,'thc nature of which is detined in the caiin hereinafter presented. Fig. 2 is a view ot' a piece ofthe fabric.

The said fabric, made of spun or rawhide strands, is intended to be used in forming the middle portion or main part of the body of a hammock, though it may be utilized to advan tage 1n various other ways.

In the drawings the strands comprising the fabric are marked with the letters a and b, such strands being in pairs, denoted by the gu'rcs 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, one of the two strands of each pair of-them being marked a and the other b.Y In this fabric the two strands of each pair are serpentined or zigzagged in opposite terlooped at regularintervals, as shown at d d d, each strand in being so applied to the other going partly around it. This will be seen by reference to the pair marked 3, whose four flanking pairs of strands are therein marked l, 2, 4, and 5. The strand'al ofthe pair 3 interloops with the strand b of pair l, while strand b of par3 interloops with the strand a otl pair 5, the interloopings being marked c. The pair lis the second and the pair 2 is the first ot' the two flanking pairs of strands on one side ofthe pair 3. The othery two pairs of ankin g strands are there marked 4 and 5, the second of them being that marked 5 and the first of them that marked 4. fabric thus made is a mesh'ed or open one, the openings being between the strands.

I claim as my invention- The meshed or open fabric, substantially as described, consisting of a series of pairs of strands, a b, arranged and interlooped, as set forth, the two strands of each pair being zigzagged in opposite directions and interlooped with each other at regular intervals, and at median distances between their own inter loopings interlooped with the next adjacent strands ot' the two second pairs of flanking strands, all being essez.tially as shown and eX- plained.
