ROCKING TEETERJI SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 255,030, dated March 14,1882, Application filed October .5, 1879.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SAMUEL I. RUssnLL, re siding at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, and a citizen of the United States,have invented new and useful Improvements in Rocking Teeters, of which the following is a full description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,in which Figure 1 is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is a plan. Fig. 3 is a central vertical cross-section.

The object of this invention is to provide a portable rocking device for the use and amusement of children, which can be used either in the house or outdoors, which I accomplish by mounting a seat upon each end of a pair of rockers, and by providing other parts and devices connected with such rockers and seats, as hereinafter more fully set forth.

In the drawings, A A represent two rockers, formed as shown, and located about seventeen inches apart. a are rods or bars, one at each end. i

B B are two seats, one at each end of the rockers, which areupon the side pieces, b, u hich are firmly secured to the rockers. c d are boards secured, as shown, to the tops of the rockers. I think it advisable to place the boards (I at an angle. Indeed this is important in order to furnish a suitable place for the feet.

0 G are two standards firmly secured to the rockers.

D D are two bars secured to the standards,

' one to each of the standards, and near the top.

E E are bars inserted and held in the ends of the bars D D for the purpose of providing a convenient place for the hands of the children.

F is a canopy for outdoor use. It consists of a piece of cloth secured to a suitable frame, to which frame are secured two light posts or arms, G, which extend downward. The standards G 0 stand at an angle, as shown in Fig. 3, and are provided with recesses c.

easily applied by passing the posts G down through the staples ff until their lower ends enter the recesses e and rest on the shoulders at the bottom thereof. No further fastening for the canopy is required, and it can he readily removed.

One, two, or more children can be accommodated on each seat, and they can easily rock the device.

For ordinary purposes I make the rockers about four feetlong. I do not limit myself to the sizes given. For parks and pleasuregrounds the rocker may be very much larger.

If desired, the seats may be provided with sidearmsand backs. I huveshown a coil-spring, g, which. when but one child is using the rocker, may be connected at one end to the floor or other fixed place and at the other end to some suitable part of the. device; but I do not think that this spring will often he used. For lawn purposes more than two seats may be used.

\Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows:

1. The rockers A A, in combination with two seats, B B, a floor, c d, standards G (J, bars D D, and rods or bars E E, substantially as and for the purposes specified.

2. A rocking device consisting of rockers A, seats B, and standards 0, provided with recesses e and bars D, having staples to receive and hold the posts of a canopy, F, all constructed substantially as specified.

3. A rocking device consisting of two rockers, A, provided at each end witha seat, B, the standards 0, connected with the rockers intermediate of the seats, and the canopy F, vdetachably connected with the standards, all as herein shown and described.

4. A rocking device consistingot' two rockers, A, a seat, B, at each end of the rockers, asuitable floor, and a spring, g, connected with one end of the rockers and adapted to be connected with the floor, all substantially as and for the purposes described.
