DROP SEAT PANTY Filed June 19, 1947 INVENTOR. Pfll/U/Vf 790551450977 4; g/ M WT Patented Jan. 23, 1 951 UNHTED STATES PATENT OFFICE;
DROP SEAT PANTY Pauline E. Rosenblatt, Cleveland, Ohio Application June 19, 1947, Serial No. 755,659
the crotch without wrinkling, folding or creep-' ing to avoid undue pressure on the crotch and consequent chafing and discomfort.
The primary object of the inventionis the provision of an undergarment having supporting means constructed to securely support the undergarment while permitting free access when such undergarment is worn under a girdle or foundation garment and yieldingly draw such undergarment upwardly to a snug and smooth fit in the crotch for unimpeded natural movements of the body without binding stresses tending to cause pressure on the crotch and consequent chafing and discomfort.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an undergarment having a front panel and a rear panel coupled with said front panel by a single elastic strip, the strip being slidably coupled with one of said panels and rigidly attached to the other one of said panels to hold the said one panel in proper position when the one of said panels being supported by means of the elastic strip on the hips of a wearer and properly held in its position when the other one of the panels is yieldingly pulled down for ready access and after release returned to its proper position by the action of said elastic strip.
Still another object of the invention is the provision of an undergarment having afront panel and a rear panel slidably coupled with said front panel by a single elastic strip slidably engaged with the top corners of the front panel and rigidly secured. to the top corners of the rear panel to provide an undergarment with a drop seat, in which garment the front panel and the elastic strip cooperate to support the undergarment on the hips of a wearer, and in which the elastic strip in its entirety yields and contracts when the rear panel is pulled down for ready access and after release returned to proper position.
2 Claims. (01. 128- 149) In addition, the invention has certain other marked superiorities which radically distinguish it from presently known structures. These im provements or superiorities embodying certain novel features of construction are clearly set forth in the following specification and the appended claims; and a preferred form of embodiment ofthe invention is hereinafter shown with reference to' the accompanying drawing forming part of the specification.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a front view in elevation of an undergarment constructed in accordance with the invention shown in applied position upon a wearer.
Fig. 2 is a rear View in elevation of the undergarment disclosed in Fig. 1 shown in applied position upon a wearer.
Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the undergar' ment alone.
Fig. 4 is a plan view of the front panel.
Fig. 5 is a plan view of the combined crotch and rear panel; and
Fig. 6 is a fragmentary view in elevation of the front panel showing its slidable engagement with the supporting strip of elastic.
Referring now in detail to the exemplified form of the invention shown in the drawing, reference numeral 2 denotes an opensided undergarment or chafe panty of suitable knitted or netted material, which panty embodies a somewhat trapezoidally shaped front panel 3 and a combined crotch and chafe panel A having a centrally disposed curved recess 5 in it V-shaped lower edge 6. Panels 3 and 4 are designed to snugly fit the front, crotch and back of a wearer and are connected with each other by sewing the bottom edge 1 of front panel 3 to the edge of the curved recess 5 in the V-shaped edge 6 of panel 4, an arrangement which provides a panty having a crotch portion 8 and left and righthanded leg and chafe shield portions 9 and It cooperating with crotch portion 8 in partly encircling the thighs of a person. The leg and chafe shield portions are smoothly stretched over the thighs by strips of elastic i l to insure proper absorption of body perspiration by leg and chafe shield portions.
Panels 3 and 4 additionally are connected to each other by supporting means l2 constructed to properly support the panty on the hips of a wearer, permit downward pulling of the upper portion of the combined crotch and chafe panel without effect on the position of the front panel and automatically return the crotch and chafe panel 3 to its position when downward pull on such panel is released.
The supporting mean I2 embody an elongated strip of elastic M secured with its ends 15 and [S to the upper portion H of panel 4 near its upper edge, which strip is slidably engaged with the upportion of front panel 3. Slidable engagement of front panel 3 with strip i4 is made possiole by rings in loops 2 i, 22 secured to the uper corners of front panel 3, the rings having elastic strip i i threaded therethrough and subdividing such strip into a central portion 25 and two lateral portions 25, 22'. Central portion 25 supports the panty in cooperation with the upper portion is of lront panel 3 when central portion 25 rests on the hips of a wearer and lateral portion 26 and 21 yieldingly pull panel 4 upwardly into proper position with respect to the crotch of the wearer. This arrangement permits panel ml to be yieldingly pulled down without interference with the support of the panty on the hips of a wearer as strip 14 will slide in rings 20 to increase the length of lateral strip portions 2 3 and as their shortened central strip portion will increase its grip on the hips of the wearer. Furthermore, such arrangement permits sufiicient yield in elastic strip id for a full drop of the upper portion of panel 4 without excessive stretching of the elastic strip so that such strip after release of the pulled down panel automatically pull same upwardly into proper position.
The foregoing panty is a single unit without adjustable strap elements and requires no fastenings which might accidentally come loose or allow unintentional displacement or dropping of one or the other panel, and are particularly well suited to be worn under girdles, foundation garments and corsets as they permit ready access 'ieldingly pulling down one panel without dislocation or opening up of the girdle or foundation garment and automatically pull up such panel back into proper position.
is to he understood that I do not wish to be confined to the particular construction herein shown and described, or prevented from making changes in the details of the invention within the scope of the claims hereto appended.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A drop seat panty to be worn under a girdle, embodying a front panel, a combined crotch and rear panel having a somewhat V-shaped edge including a centrally arranged rounded recess,
said front panel having its lower edge extended into said recess and its side edges secured to said rear panel in the area surrounding said recess to form a panty with front and rear portions connected by a crotch portion and symmetrically arranged leg and chafe shield portions, and yielding supporting means for said panty including an elongated elastic strip attached with its opposite ends to spaced points at the top edge of said rear panel and slidably coupled with its central portion to spaced points near the top edge of the front panel.
2. A drop seat panty as described in claim 1, including strips of elastic secured to the side edge corners adjacent to the V-shaped edge of the rear panel and the centralareas of said side edges to provide means yieldingly holding said leg and chafe shield portions in proper position on the legs of a person wearing the panty.
